Common Hawker/ Aeshna Juncea/ Venglazenmaker / Torf-Mosaikjungfer. Flying free!

The Common Hawker is most often seen hawking over breeding areas and along the edges of woodland. This is a bog and moorland species breeding in small acid pools.
KEY IDENTIFICATION FEATURES:

-Males have a black abdomen with paired blue and yellow spots
-In males the abdomen has a constricted waist
-Narrow antehumeral stripes in males
-Broad eye contact
-Females usually have a brown abdomen with yellow spots (although the spots can also be green or blue).
-In both sexes the yellow costa is diagnostic though not obvious in flight.

This is not a AESCHNA JUNCEA.....it is the AESCHNA CYANEA...blaugrüne Mosaikjungfer!!!

Woooooooooooooooowwwwww!!

Wonderful shot!! Very very beautiful!!!

Chris

Michael, don't shout (capitals)! Harm's identification is correct. Among other things, the spots on abdominal segments 1-7 of cyanea are green, not blue as here.

Harm: Nice shot, although it should be marked as a repost, I think? I would have gone a little further with PS (see WS) but this is a clear improvement over the original.
Regards, Nigel.

Very nice shot of the flying Aeshna. Very good focus and superb blurred BG. I like the position of the legs during flying.

Wooooooow ! I can't believe it, this action shot is great ! This insect is so fast and you made sharpness picture of it. It is interesting to see how are the legs during the flight.
Congratulation Harm and thanks for sharing.

Unbelievable capture. I photograph dragonflies quite often and I can't imagine how you were able to complete this shot! Excellent.

Hi Harm!

Dream picture. Perfect timing and quality of dragonfly. BG is slightly noisy, but I think it could be easy correct in noise removing software [see Merlin's workshop]. Very good work, I'm still trying to take similiar photo but with no luck!

Hallo Harm,
waarschijnlijk zit deze al weer lang in de digitale diadoos, maar wat een mooie foto. DE zacht gele achtergrond en kraakscherpe libel. En dan ook nog een venglazenmaker, niet de minste soort. Geweldig!
Groeten, JAcob
