Aged phallus
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The latin name of this mushroom is Phallus impudicus.
From an already existing big egg, they grow in a couple of hours, to a size of 20 cm.
They stink.
This one is aged and therefore doesn't stand right anymore.
There's an opening at the tip.
Others have colors but this one is all white (also if not aged).
The stink attracks flies who will spread the spores.
No tripod that day : I had to reduce ISO and to use my leg to stabilize the camera.
Thanks for looking. |

I am jalous, because I would like to see this funny species in real. It seems absent in my forests. Interesting to see it at this old state.
Congratulations Jean Marie and TFS
Hi JeanMarie,
That is really an interesting shot. Great exposure has brought out the colors and detail very well. It is very obvious how it got it's name. A very nice shot. Well done.

Well JeanMarie, what an impudent phallus indeed! Lying down on the job!
A most interesting find. I like that you were able to show the "object" without twigs , grasses or leaves interfering with our "subject"... Clearly there is a reason why this mushroom is called "aged" Well chosen title.
Is this one known in the Netherlands as "stinkzwam"?
Small criticism: the detail on the head is difficult to see, as it is not sharp. Tfs. Jay
