Inachis io on Prunus spinosa / Peacock Butterfly on Blackthorn / Tagpfauenauge auf Schlehdorn oder Schwarzdorn / Paon du jour au Prunier épineux( Épine noire, Prunellier).

Nettle eaters: Inachis io (Peacock)

Peacocks hibernate as butterflies. As soon as the days become sunny and warm again in early spring the first Peacocks re-appear. You can spot them as early as March. The females prefer nettles in sunny but damp places like river banks to lay their egs. The caterpillars live in groups until they are nearly fully grown.
