A very beautiful portrait of this impressive bird - the hornbill.
The colors are simply lovely and the POV is excellent.
I read about the problems that you are facing in the Forum thread that you started but i didn't want to interveen at first since i have no experience with SLR cameras.
Now it's clear that the sharpness isn't flawless here, too nad i can see why you're a bit upset. Although i have only a compact cam, it also has a pretty powerfull zoom (432mm - 35 mmequiv) and also an IS. What i can tell you about the shaking effect on mine is that is is evident at shutter speeds of 1/50 or slower if the camera is handheld. Since i don't have an tripod yet, if i have to use these shutterspeeds i use other means of support for the camera or my arms, but usually i do everything i can to avoid it :)
I don't know if that helps, but since no SLR owner wrote anything to that thread, i said at least i should :)

Well captured shot with nice colors and details,the focus is a bit soft (I read your message in the form as well),best solution to avoid camerashake is the use of a tripod.

Hi Annick,
Nice close up shot of this colorful hornbill. This bird look familiar to me. Well focused around the eye. Neat image. Increase in color contrast between bird's feathers and BG should make the main object stand out better.

Where can I start?
The blue/green eye shadow is so pretty on this fellow.
The yellow feathers contrast so well against the black ones.
That bill and horn look so unreal.

I love all of your portraits and this one makes no exception, I love this colorful bird ywith huge beak. Even if the focus is a bit soft, there are some good details and I think it is a great picture. The colors are wonderful and the composition is splendid. The bird stands out nicely on the dark BG. Very well done !
