This photograph of a Great Horned Owl face is from the archives. It's captured during a bird of prey show, last year in the zoo of Amsterdam, Artis.
It's also my TN upload #800.

Captured handheld. ISO 400. Slightly cropped.
Digital darkroom workflow: Bridge, Camera Raw and Photoshop CS3.

The Great Horned Owl, Bubo virginianus, is a large owl native to North and South America. It is an adaptable bird with a vast range, though it is not as widespread as the Barn Owl.

Distribution

The breeding habitat of the Great Horned Owl extends almost throughout both North America and South America. Within their habitat they can take up residence in trees that include deciduous, coniferous, and mixed forests, tropical rainforests, pampas, prairie, mountainous areas, deserts, subarctic tundra, rocky coasts, mangrove swamps, and some urban areas. Though less common in the more extreme areas (i.e. the heart of the deserts, extremely dense rainforests) and missing from the high Arctic tundra, they are found in most habitats.

Geweldig portret van deze oehoe. Perfecte scherpte, vooral in de ogen. Het is dan wel uit een dierentuin, maar de achtergrond is puur natuur, zo te zien. Prachtige compositie.

This is a terrific close-up of this Great Horned Owl!
The details here are impeccable and the textures everywhere [especially on the iris from its eyes...yes, i looked carefully there :)] are brilliant!

Ondanks dat de achtgrond misschien een beetje te licht is, is dit toch eem prachtige foto. De helderheid van de ogen en het detail in de veren is super. Het lijkt wel of the uil blij was om je te zien. Hij heeft echt een mooie glimlach.
