Grèbe huppé - Podiceps cristatus - Great Crested Grebe

They are the largest European grebes. In winter the face is mostly pale with just a narrow black, slightly crested, cap. In summer this pattern develops into elaborate black and chestnut plumes called tippets.
Young grebes are delightful zebra-striped creatures capable of swimming and diving almost at hatching. During the first two to three weeks they ride on the parents' back in turn while the other adult brings food.

Shot:
handheld but camera stabised against a tree.

PS work:
- Crop 50%.
- Autolevel, with effect reduced to 50% on the whole picture , and to 0% on the neck.

I got a all serie of pics from those 3 together with the other parent and a fish. But quality is not good enough for TN :-(

Love this shot. Nice reflection and it is great to see the front and back of the babies' heads. I think I might have cropped a little more off the left side.

Lovely shot, a great moment to capture. I've never seen a young Grebe before, I didn't think they'd be so stripey. Great detail and colours and nicely framed to include the reflection. Nice work.
