Gibbons are the small apes in the family Hylobatidae. The family is divided into four genera based on their diploid chromosome number: Hylobates (44), Hoolock (38), Nomascus (52), and Symphalangus (50).[2][3] They occur in tropical and subtropical rainforests from northeast India to Indonesia and north to southern China, including the islands of Sumatra, Borneo and Java. The extinct Bunopithecus sericus is an extinct gibbon or gibbon-like ape which, until recently, was thought to be closely related to the Hoolock gibbons.

Also called the lesser apes, gibbons differ from great apes (chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans and humans) in being smaller, pair-bonded, not making nests, and in certain anatomical details in which they superficially more closely resemble monkeys than great apes do. Gibbons are masters of their primary mode of locomotion, brachiation, swinging from branch to branch distances of up to 15 m (50 ft), at speeds as much as 56 km/h (35 mph). They can also make leaps of up to 8 m (27 ft), and walk bipedally with their arms raised for balance.

Hi Annick,
What an expression! Fabulous portrait with immaculate sharpness on its hairy body and the white 'beard' reminds of olden times. Great eye contact and the distinct pout has been captured well against the green BG. Looks majestic. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

This is technically outstanding. Perfect exposure! Amazing details. This gibbon has such an interesting appearance.

Hi Annick,
Face expression plus the contrast of white and black hairs make this a very attractive picture. The image is sharp in focus and great color clarity. Very well done.

Hi Annick,
Great portrait of this Gibbon with the almost human like expression. Good detail, sharp, DOF etc. Just cannot work out why there is an overlapping greyish outline to its back and head.
Regards,
Peter

Great capture - Highly expressive portrait with wonderful detail.
Being a great ape myself - resemblance to our species is there. Actually I know somebody, who could be his brother.. :))

The "glow" around the body is a bit unfortunate, but doing postwork, where hair is involved always is on the tricky side.

Cheers, Klaus
