Copper Pheasant
wiki:
The Copper Pheasant, Syrmaticus soemmerringii also known as Soemmerring's Pheasant is a large, up to 136cm long, pheasant with a rich copperry chestnut plumage, yellowish bill, brown iris and red facial skin. The female is a brown bird with greyish brown upperparts and buff barred dark brown below. The male has short spur on its grey legs, none in female.

The Copper Pheasant is found and endemic to hill and mountain forests of Honshū, Kyūshū and Shikoku islands of Japan. The diet consists mainly of insects, arthropods, roots, leaves and grains.

The scientific name commemorates the German scientist Samuel Thomas von Sömmering.

Due to ongoing habitat lost and overhunting in some areas, the Copper Pheasant is evaluated as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Hi, Annick:
Difficult to be 100% certain without seeing more of the bird, but this looks like a Copper Pheasant Syrmaticus soemmerringii in non-breeding plumage. A nice portrait, but the contrast between the subject and background is rather poor there seems to be some visible PP. An unusual and scarce species, though and I think it's a new one for TN.
Regards, Nigel

Hello Annick,
Great colours and details are captured, excellent piece of work!
I like the minimalistic colour palette here, where the red contrasts the brownish very good...
Very good textures in this fine birdy portrait!
Greetings,

Hello Annick,
Fine portrait of this lovely pheasant from Japan.
Male pheasants generally have brilliant crests and rich colours around their eyes. This Copper pheasant looks like a female to me. All the same, it is a beautiful capture on all accounts.
regards,
Ram
