De brandnetelmot (Eurrhypara hortulata) is een dagactieve nachtvlinder uit de familie Crambidae, de grasmotten.

Met een spanwijdte van 24 tot 28 millimeter is het een vrij grote vlinder uit de familie van de lichtmotten.

De waardplant voor de vlinder is voornamelijk de brandnetel. De andoorn en munt worden door de rupsen gebruikt als voedsel.

De vliegtijd van de brandnetelmot is juni en juli.



Der Brennnesselzünsler (Eurrhypara hortulata) ist ein (Klein-) Schmetterling aus der Familie der Crambidae.
Merkmale:
Die Falter erreichen eine Spannweite von etwa 18 Millimetern.

Die Raupen sind gelblich oder grün gefärbt und sind schwach behaart. Ihre Kopfkapsel ist schwarz.

Lebensweise: Die nachtaktiven Falter besiedelt Gärten und Wälder und halten sich tagsüber vor allem in Sträuchern und an Brennnesseln auf. Sie lassen sich durch künstliche Lichtquellen anlocken. Die Raupen leben in zusammengesponnenen Blättern ihrer Nahrungspflanzen. Sie überwintern als Raupe in einem Kokon entweder im abgefallenen Laub oder in einem Stängel und verpuppen sich erst im Frühjahr.


Nahrung der Raupen: Die Raupen ernähren sich unter anderem von Brennnesseln (Urtica), Zieste (Stachys), Minzen, (Mentha), Marrubium und Johannisbeeren (Ribes).


Flug- und Raupenzeiten: Der Brennnesselzünsler bildet eine Generation im Jahr, die von Mai bis Mitte September fliegt. Die Raupen sind von August bis September und nach der Überwinterung bis Mai anzutreffen

Je hebt het patroon op de vleugels van deze mot prima vast weten te leggen. Zeer goed van scherpte en goede details.

Excellent capture of this Small Magpie moth! Even though it is day-flying we don't often see it here. It stands out very nicely in the natural setting and details are very sharp. Fine colours too and well composed.
