Mating of great crested grebes
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This photo of two mating great crested grebes was taken in a canal in the village Rijpwetering in the early morning of a late February day. I watched the birds already for some time, performing dances on the water. The two birds were then hiding behind a concrete structure in the water near the reeds that mark the boundary of the canal. The whole mating scene as you can see it in this picture lasted for no more than a second.
In Alkemade you can see the great crested grebe quite frequently and it is not very shy. However, this was the first and only time that I saw them mating.
Some names of the bird in different languages:
Fuut (NL)
Haubentaucher (DE)
Great Crested Grebe (UK) |

mating or drowning? *g* great capture, love the "action" and the reflections, hope the two were successfull.
technically a little bit more sharpness would be good and the white thing on the right is slightly distracting from the
interesting scene. best wishes & take care, thor.
very nice capture and reflection
love the color tone
