This summer I saw a group of circa 30 exotic Indian Geese in my hometown in the wild. There were about 10 adults and 20 juveniles. They must be escaped somewhere and become wild.

The Bar-headed Goose, anser indicus, is 71-76 cm. Monotypic.
Adult: Unmistakable, with two black bands on back of white head, broad white line down side of neck, yellow bill with dark tip and orange-yellow legs and feet. Upper foreneck and upper hindneck are blacker than lower neck. In flight, wing pattern similar to Greylag Goose but upperwing-coverts and bases of outer primaries more uniform pale grey, contrasting sharply with blackish rest of wing.
Juvenile: Hindcrown to back of neck dark greyish-brown, dusky linr on lores, rest od neck more uniform pale greyish.

Voice: Soft, nasal, repeated honking: “oh-wa, aah-aah’ and ‘ooh-ah’. Notes somewhat lower, more nasal and wider-spaced than other geese.

Habitat & behaviour: Large rivers, lakes, arable fields, grassy areas; up to 400 m. Usually in small flocks.

Range & status: Breeds former Soviet C Asia, NW India, Tibet, Mongolia, NW,W,N, China; winters Indian subcontinent (except islands), S Tibet.

Hi Peter. From the small picture it look like the Goose had two heads !!. This is one i have not seen in the wild so thanks for posting on TN. I like the pose with one looking each way. We can see the neck and head markings with fine detail and natural looking colours. Well taken TFS.

Hello Peter,
A remarkable capture of this pair of Bar-headed Geese, the POV putting their heads, necks and bodies together to a fine and unusual effect!
They contrast superbly with the natural reedy BG in a fine composition.
We see this species occasionally in Sweden, but they don't breed in the wild yet and are still regarded as escapes, but it looks like they have established themselves in Holland.
Thanks and have a good weekend,
Ivan

Greetings once more! I have not been to your gallery in quite some time and the latest is a fine coot but my eyes went straight to this one which almost appears as an optical illusion. I can see why you posted it..an unusual shot for sure. Nice addition which was taken 2 days before my B'Day this summer!
Bob

Hey peter!
I keep wondering, my friend, how do you get so many different species to shoot? And then you also travel quite some, it seems!
A superb shot of a bird I've never seen!
Bravo!
Goldy
