"I invite you for lunch" is what the mallard male proposed to his girlfriend.
Using the meal together is a much more pleasant affair, than going out on your own.
This couple was very busy looking for a light meal in a small ditch not far from my house.

The mallard ducks feed by "dabbling" and upending, meaning that they tip their bodies into water, bill first, tail in the air, to forage for food. Their diet is 90% vegetarian, consisting mainly of seeds of grasses, sedges, pondweeds and other aquatic vegetation. Snails, insects and small fish sometimes are taken as well.
