[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
In the Netherlands live 70 types of dragonflies. The order dragon flies is generally divided in two ranges dragonflies (Zygoptera) and real dragonflies, or glaziers (Anisoptera) this is by far most important. The name glazier descends from the time that people, who had replace broken squares in former days; the pieces transported glass on a frame of slattern, so that it was then carried with on the back. This frame stuck out on side, as two terrible wings.

I hope I found the righ identity.

This is the flat belly libellula depressa it a female.
The larvae lives approximately two years in the mud.
They are about 65-75 mm long.
It lives about 2 year as a larvae
The male, are is in reality light blue.
The female have still that splendid yellow spot on the untherbody.

They live by well-vegetated still water including garden and farm ponds. Adults fly from mid May to early August. The larvae can survive long in mud, if no more water stands there in the ponds. When we see thee first chasers we know that the summer is coming.

Dag Tueni,

Hartelijke groeten,

Jenny vrouw van John.

Hi Teunie,
woooooow - you were soooo lucky to see this one so early in the year, I love that shot.
Your POV is wonderful, the dragon seems to be gigantic - like an helicopter - amazing work, thanks and greetings
Sabine - wishnugaruda

Hoi Teunie,
Dit vind ik gaaf. Een insect zo weten te fotograferen is erg bijzonder en origineel. Al die macro's en close-ups zijn niet vergeleken met dit. Juist het laten zien van de omgeving is belangrijk en ook mooi.
Groetjes,
Niek

Beautyful. Great composition and colors. Details are perfect.

Great work.

Samuele

bonjour teunie

Hi Teunie.
I love your extremely impressive dragonfly picture. I am impresses with phenomenal POV and exposure parameters and, first of all, aperture value. DOF is really great as well as the details and beautifulness of the BG. I like crisp sharpness and rich colours of the dragonfly, amazing composition and cropping of the shot, pictorial scenery. Bravo and my best wishes.

Hi Teunie

This is a splendid shot of this dragonfly, and a very specieal one, too. I think this is one of the shots that show part of the habitat better than most i've seen so far.
Of course, the fact that the BG is not completely blurred here is a bit dtstracting, but i, as a biologist, apreciate the harmony between the animal and the environment.
Other than that, the colors everywhere are most charming, the details are nice, the exposure is spot-on and the composition excellent.

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Hello Teunie,
Much obliged for your visit and kind critique on my recent picture of a dragonfly.
My God, this is a mind-blowing perspective you have adopted to shoot this dragonfly! It looks like a giant bird from a sci-fi movie such as the Jurassic Park!
Thanks for sharing this unusual capture.

Ram

Hi Teunie

Wow, what an attractive shot, showing this dragonfly with full view of its natural surrounding habitat. This is a POV we seldom see on TN, because most of us normally tend to zoom right in for an inclusive macro thereby trying to obtain the optimum OOF or isolated BG. This however is a great shot with the focus rather being exclusive and to zoom right out.

Although the BG is a little busy with all those branches and vegetation one can still clearly distinguish the insect. The focus is very sharp while showing excellent details on the wings and the colours are just great. You also managed to capture some great light on the subject.

Very well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

This is a stunning capture Teunie! Details, pose and colors are amazing and I like this DOF that let us see a beautiful BG which is different from what we are used to see. Well done with interesting notes. Thanks,
Claudine

Hello Teunie,
Unusual point of view of this female L. depressa. An interesting and very good capture! Sharp details and nice colours. Only I found the background a bit distracting but it gives a nice feeling of summer.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

This POV is really good for this type of shot. I am surprised to see all the detail in background too.

An interesting presentation of dragonfly in natural surroundings. I usually strive to get a completely blurred background, but it is nice to occasionaly see the environment of this species. Great POV.

Hello Teunie,
This is an amazing capture L. depressa, because of the quality of the shot, the POV and that you photographed it so early: the end of March! Nice habitat BG.
TFS and thank you for your kind words on my first anniversary on TN!
