| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This 'Dancing-fly', as it is also called is about 2cm long and 'sat' down on the balcony. They only live a few days and don't eat or sting.
The males can form large clouds flying with eachother. Their role is to break down organical material to serve as food for fishes.
The front legs are usually put way up when it sits still, almost as if it was posing for the picture...
Photographers Note: I shot this picture using a Macroflash, because it was nighttime. You can still see the dark surrounding, that's the night sky. You can see I used a F/9.0. This is because I wanted to include both front legs in the area of focus.
I'm sorry I had to decrease the size of the picture so much to keep it about 800 pixels wide. Can anyone hand me a tip or hint to keep my original file size on Treknature?
Thanks again for all the support, I find treknature very usefull.

Hi Arjuna this is a superb shot!
Very good macro that has captured loads of detail in a clear and well composed shot.

well done

Hello "Arjuna" (I wonder whether that is your real name or a pseudonym for TN),
First of all, thanks for looking at my recent picture of a grasshopper and writing your critique on it.
Coming to your picture of a Dancing Mosquito, it is a great capture, both technically and aesthetically. The subject is well presented from lateral point of view.
BTW, does it bite to qualify as a mosquito?
I marvel at the shape and size of those unique looking antennae, one of which has been captured very sharply in this image.
TFS.
