[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The third day of my mini vacation to the south of Limburg brought me to the small village called Slenaken and to the Gulp river. (or should I say creek, because it aint that big)

Just a few days before the temperature was still around 15 degrees C. But on the day I left the temperature changed to 25, and rising the days after. This was something I didn't expect. The change in temperatures and the clear sky made me to get up real early to beat the heat. When I took this photo, the temperature was still OK, but the sun was already above the hill top making it all a bit too bright.

Anyway, I walked along the river when I came to this open pasture with the river gently flowing through it. It had a real serene feel to it and I had to try to capture it. Just standing there and setting up my equipment for the shot made me relaxed. I think I spent more then 10 minutes at this spot just to soak up the serenity.

Tech talk: A grad ND 4 filter to balance the exposure. Shot in RAW, adjusted white balance and converted it to JPEG. I adjusted the levels and curves. USM, frame, resize and USM again.

Hi Niek, nice natural colours and a effective composition. Water always gives an opportunity to add some drama. Although your POV gives a great view of the scene I may have used a low POV nearer the stream if possible. Regards Steve.

Hi Niek

Creek or rives, doesn't really matter if it's that beautiful :)
This is a very beautiful place and also seems to be a splendid habitat for all sorts of lovely creatures :) Now that my trip to the states has been postponed, i'm looking forward to visiting similar places to this but here around my town, in search for some new great and interesting habitats :)

The colors here are really great and very well saturated and the fact that you used that grad filter really helped you in getting that superb even exposure everywhere.
The details are great throughtout the entire frame and the compo creted is wonderful.

Bravo and TFS

Hello Niek,
This looks so wonderful and peaceful - a lovely meandering stream and beautiful spring greens! I'd guess there are some cherry trees in blossom in the background.
Very nice composition from a nice point of view and showing sharp details and nice colours.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hi Niek,
I can see why you lingered so here in this spot, It is very beautiful with the babbling brook and the lush green with spring in the air. TFS

Hi Niek,

Again a magnificent photo. Naturel colors. A very good POV, also a very nice BG. It's seem to be you made that photo in the late afternoon or early morning?? Nice shot. Thanks for that
Regards Bob

This is a lovely scene Niek. I really like both it and your capture of it. It's funny that when I drag this image onto my desktop it really comes alive. That doesn't make any sense to me in light of our recent PC/Mac comparisons. The light and the water and sky really look clear and bright where on TN there is a slight dullness to them!! : P It still looks pretty darned good though. It is technically very well handled. I wouldn't mind spending some time there myself. The composition just invites the viewer in.

Hi Niek,
What a different landscapes can be seen here.
I'm amazed with the lot of leafless trees seen in your latitudes.
It's very good your composition here, or at least I like it.
Thanks for the tech info given, I can see clearly the effect of the ND filter in the colour sky gradation.
Well done and thanks again for share it.
My best regards,
JM

Hi Niek, lovely little river and wonderful landscape, relaxing composition, very well done, have a nice week end, ciao Silvio

Hi Niek

A lovely tranquil scene you have captured here.

The little creek very effectively draws the eyes into the picturesque setting, while trying to follow its course around the bend and that's where the further exploration continues. The colours are very cheerful, the details are well defined, and the lighting was excellently captured. Somehow I get the impression that the horizon is slightly angled and dropping off towards the right, but that's probably just my eyes since the little creek do appear to be level. The ND had a lovely effect, especially on the sky and it definitely aided in bringing out all those lovely rich colour tones in the vegetation.

Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Wow, a 4! I guess that may explain why the green grass just seems to GLOW, Niek. There's nothing artifical looking here, it's just the bright green of spring, and I think the filter works very well. I like the crop on the bottom just below the rock outcrop and bush. I wonder if a bit more of the stream might have made it more of a "subject" in the shot. I really like the location, too. It might be worth visiting the same scene in a week or two as the trees leaf out and provide some more green and don't look so stark.

Hi Niek,

brilliant choice and execution of grad filter, this is a classic landscape shot done very well indeed. It could've so easily been a dull and uninteresting shot but the light, different elements and composition all create the mood you describe in your note. Good work on the PP too.

Very well done and hope you're well,

Paul

Hello Niek,
Attractive landscape dressed in the fresh colours of spring!
I like the composition with the small stream to take me into the scenery...
A beautiful and tranquil place well depicted!

Hi Niek,
I think creek is the better word ;-).
Lovely scenery you captured here, love those fresh Spring colors, everything seems to waken up from hibernation.
Lovely composition, the creek does act as a very nice lead in line.

G'day Niek.
Lovely scene. I like the positioning of the 'river' how it meanders it's way into the center of the scene. And there appears to be a small track leading in from the right, if you look long and close it also leads the eye to the background. Very nice and very well done.
Best regards, Steve.

Hi again Niek ,
what a nice place, well composed and nice sharpness.

best wishes

Hello Niek,
you reached your aim, I like the serenity of this composition, and the contrast between the green of the grass and the bare branches: as a representation of the passage from winter to spring...
Regards,
Violetta

Hello Niek,
Although the landscape is nothing really uncommon in Europe, it brings a feeling of freshness and peace. I like very much this gentle shade of green and blue skye mirroring in the river. Nice static composition.
Best greetings,
Michal
