I'm taking a small break from my photos from Limburg. I revisited, what seems to become my favorite location, the Archemerberg. I wanted to see if spring has brought any changes to this area. It did bring some changes, but because of the six week drought not many changes were there. We only had 0.3mm of rain in the month of April.

I took this photo on the day that we Dutch celebrate the birthday of our Queen. Which means an extra day off. I got up a few minutes before six in the morning, hoping to catch the soft morning light and to beat the crowd. I was the only one there and never experienced such an undisturbed place. The only sound I heard were from Cuckoo and many Larks. I did realize that it was extreemly dry since the sandy ground was rock hard and many small trees had died.

I will return to my mountain later this week and capture the changes, since we had a lot of rain the past two weeks.

This is a view toward the very top of the mountain. The path is leading toward the lookout point which is also the highest point. An impressive 80 meters.

Tech talk. I used a grad ND filter, but I am not sure if it was a 3.3ND or 4ND. Anyway, it did expose the sky a bit too bright, especially on the right side. The camera was set on my tripod and I used a cable release. It was rather windy on top of the mountain which you can see in the movement of some of the leaves.

I had to reduce the quality of the photo a lot, so I hope it still looks OK.

Hi Niek,
Splendid landscape shot. The clam sky, the lonely tree and the solitary pathway lends such a tranquil environment. The lighting is so special. Very nicely composed, framed and presented. Kudos.
TFS.

Hi Niek,
A very good landscape!
I found it has a very particular mood or atmosphere, perhaps is the combinatin of the good early ligh plus the ND filter used, but it is really a very nice effect.
Very interesting the clouds formations at the right, they form like ascending strips or patterns.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM

What a nice place for a walk in the sun. The light is really special in this shot. The OE doesn't bother me that much. Nice simple composition, saturation and sharpness. It looks sharp for a windy day with a relatively slow shutter speed. Nice.

Hello Niek,
This is a beautiful composition, and the early morning sunlight contributes to the special atmosphere!
Good strong colours, and the tree balance the diagonal path very well...
Good lead-in and fine lines!

Hi Niek

Another lovely and maybe a bit moody shot from your very special Archemerberg.
Perhaps the wind that's blowing is the wind of change that will end the drought...i've heared that it will rain a lot these days here, too :(( I was planning a small trip...Eh well...my luck...
Anyway, i'm really curious here how would the picture have looked if you hadn'e used any grad filters...i'm sure the sky would have been very bright, but it would have been a funny comparison and a good lesson for those who are thinking about getting some :)
Anyway, i really like the composition here with the precise positioning of the tree in the frame and also the lovely wide angle given by that great lens.
The colors are all charming and the perspective lovely.

Bravo and TFS

Hello Niek,
This picture is again full of silence and peace. I like this large views on landscapes. Perfectly composed with the tree on the left, structuring the picture. Beautiful light too.
Thank's and best regards
Anne

Hi Neik,

when I sit down to view your collection I like to do it with a good cup of coffee, it's like going on a mini holiday with you! :-)

Hi Niek,
great shot, I like the POV and the composition a lot.
Even though this singel tree demands the atention you kept the focus on the path which works very well to draw in the eye.
Lovely scenery the colors are excellent and the framing works very well.

Great composition. Lovely light and colours. Great perspective with the road leading into the image. And i like that subtle hint of cloud in the sky. Well done.

a well graded sky puts the tree in a attentive position and gradually lightens up to a firm cloud shape in the top upper left
ground tones really well saturated and sharp
good tension with the road tending to divide and then join up ..makes the ground areas more interesting
cheers
