Another view of the black headed night heron,
which is a very rare bird in the Netherlands.
The photo was made at the Spieringspolder near
the Nieuwe Merwede River (Biesbosch National Park in the Rhine-Maas Delta).

On first glance, I thought that this is a small grey heronbird but then I looked through the binocular and realized that this is a different species: The white feather on the head is a special feature of this night heron bird.

Time 21:00:
Lens, Focus:
I used a Sigma Macro lens at 300mm.
Stabilisation:
Stativ and and auto-release to avoid movement.
Postprocessed:
MS-Photoeditor (resize, 2levels Sharpness, increased contrast).

A little too soft and out of focus, but the dof works for me. A beautiful bird that could stand out a bit more by cropping out the white behind him so that the only white is on the fence he is perced on. Thanks for sharing :)

Hi Mike,
this could have been a vey good picture,
if it not was so soft and with all the noise in the BG.
I don't think it's camera noise it looks more like trace
from little to much PP-work. if you use 100-400 ISO it will not be this much noise. I have look in your gallery
and find most of your picture like this.
Maybe you have set all the parameters in the camera to high,
contrast, sharpen, and saturation.
About the softness I don't know since you used a tripod.
