[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Black and blue that's all I can say about this one. Today I had two hours to spare and I took the opportunity to drive to the 'Vennen' (ponds) of Oisterwijk. I saw some very nice dragonflies but it was difficult to catch them. I succeeded in catching a few with worthwhile quality for TN.
This is a new species for me, so if someone could help identifying it, I would appreciate it. This guy/girl (?) was quit easy to approach.

Does anyone know a practical book on identifying these? I don't need a mega information source but something practical with lots of pictures? Maybe it's an idea to post these kind of books on this site.

PP: little crop, levels and some USM

A very good capture.
Very nice composition with the diagonal and great DoF.
I think its a Common Blue damselfly but someone here will probably know better.
Very good work,well done.

Jan, It's a male common blue damselfly (Enallagama cyathigerum) Have a look on abdominal segment 2 that's counting from the thorax. There is a 'club' shaped motiff, that's a good ID of Common Blue. Males are this bright blue. The book I have just got recently and I can highly recommend is "Field Guide to the Dragonflies and Damselflies of Great Britain and Ireland" by Steve Brooks, published by British Wildlife Publishing. It's good but maybe you would like a european one. You may also be able to buy an ID poster, that will be cheap and just give ID. I don't know where you could get one but I've seen them. Great picture, nice colours and good detail, very good all round, maybe I would crop the right a bit, but that's a taste thing I guess.

This guy looks like he is filled with neon gas. This is a stunning capture and I love the color and sharpness. I also like books with lots of pictures:)

Jan, Like the steely ice blue of this dragons eyes. I also would've cropped right a bit. As for identifying any specie of plant/animal I rely solely on the internet for this purpose. If you tried to keep books with pictures on this stuff there wouldn't be enough room on your shelves!!
