A Pelican or a Stork? by Margo Fallis

Dylan’s bill was full of fish. They squirmed about, trying to get out, but he kept his bill shut tight and gobbled them down. After he’d finished his last fish, he heard a noise. He looked up and saw a stork flying overhead. It carried a bundle in its bill. Dylan flew up to the stork. "What’s in the bundle?" he asked. "It’s making a lot of noise!"
Though it was difficult for the stork to answer, he mumbled, "It’s a baby!"
"A baby?!" the pelican asked.
"I’m delivering a baby!" the stork replied.
Dylan looked at the stork’s long, golden, and very sharp bill. A white cloth was tied around it and inside there was indeed a wee baby. "Where are you taking that baby?" he asked.
"To her mum and dad. Now, enough questions, I’ve got a delivery to make. Cheerio," the stork called and flew off to the right.
Dylan thought: "I want to deliver babies. I’ve got a nice pouch here to carry it; much safer than the cloth." He called, "Hey, stork! Where do you go to get the babies?"
The stork looked at Dylan and scoffed, "You can’t deliver babies. You’re a pelican. Only storks deliver babies! Your bill has pieces of fish in it and it smells horrible, no place for a baby. Who has ever heard of a pelican delivering babies? Everyone knows that storks deliver babies!" the stork answered and flew away.
Dylan was determined to be a stork, so he followed the bird. It landed on a distant island. Dylan watched the stork land at the end of the cabbage patch. Some storks walked towards Dylan. "What are you doing here? This island is for storks only! I suggest you leave," one of them said.
"I want to deliver babies." Dylan opened his bill to show them.
"Whew! That smells horrid in there. We can’t put a baby in that bill. Be off with you!" the stork shouted.
Dylan cried. "I want to be a stork," he sniffled.
The stork that had flown by earlier, heard Dylan’s sobs. He said: "I’ve talked to my boss and he said that we could let you help, but only with animal babies. I don’t imagine raccoons and beavers would mind the fishy smell in your bill. Come with me," the stork said. "This is our animal baby cabbage patch." Then a baby raccoon burst from a cabbage. The stork picked it up. "I get to take the baby raccoon?" Dylan asked.
"Yes! Take him to his mum and dad in Rose Petal Glen, up in the Cairngorms. Can you do that?" the stork asked.
"Oh yes!" Dylan said.
The stork laid the baby raccoon carefully inside Dylan’s bill. "Be careful with him. When you're ready, report to me. If you’ve done your job correctly, we’ll let you deliver other baby animals."
Dylan made sure the baby raccoon was safe, shut his bill and flew off. He did a great job and from that day on he was the official baby animal deliverer for the whole of Scotland!

This White Stork (Ciconia ciconia) was shot in "Natuurpark Lelystad". A dozen pair of free stork breed there.

Excellente prise de vue avec une bonne netteté et beaucoup de détails dans le plumage.

Félicitations !!

I love the way you framed this shot. This blue sky as a BG is perfect for Stork. Great details and composition, nice note too.
I like it very much.
Well done!

Nice portrait, but maybe too much empty space on the right side, portrait framing would have been better IMO.
Well done.
TFS.

Hi Pieter!
Wonderful shot,very nice framing.Details on white is amazing.Perfect composition.TFS...:-)

Its a very nice and sharp portrait of this stork, Pieter. The blue BG is striking. I tend to favour Philips comment on the composition... to much space to the right. But is a n=minor nit. Very well done.

Hi Pieter!
Typical Polish bird on BG made from Polish Blue sky [as Janice call it ;-)]. Great, simply and clear composition. Nice colours. Baby deliverer [same legend in Poland] looks very good with its smile and shinny black eye. Great job!

It's a great profile Pieter, with very good sharpness, detail and perfect exposure. Very nice!

Hmm, I don't really like the way the Stork comes out of the corner of the photo. May have been better placed slightly further right, maybe 1/4 across the bottom. Just my personal taste, though, I don't know if it would look OK. Nice and sharp, though.

I really like the composition here.
Very good work with the White.
GREAT SHOT!

hello:)
