We do have some here, hence the name of the wilderness town nearby my mountain is named "Curlew, Washington". Only a few have ever been seen and finding them on the net is not particularly easy. I was searching for one many years ago and could find none..I suppose that has changed a bit now, but this one is the best I have seen...so your image reaches across the ocean Peter! what an interesting surprise!

Hi Peter,

I think this is the first time I have seen a Curlew. Wonderful shot of him in this one legged pose. Nice natural colors and excellent details of the face and plummage. That is an amazing looking bill. He looks great with the grassy background.

ik heb ze zelf ook mogen fotograferen in Blijdorp maar ben ze net zo als mijn kievit ook tegengekomen bij de zevenhuizerplassen(Rotterdam) en de Wollebrand(Naaldwijk).

Hi Peter. There is never any mistake about a Curlew they stand out so well with the long curved bill.you have captured a fine shot looks like it got one leg. but i know that s how they stand. well done TFS.

I really like the fact that you managed a side POV here - definitely the best one possible for this bird, in order to give us an excellent angle for that exquisite bill.
