[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
In the east of the Netherlands stones and trees were used to mark a border or crossing. The trees were called 'Kroezeboom'.

This tree is a border marker between farmland on the top of an open field. (Fleringer Es) The trees were also considered a holy place and were used as a place for justice. This tree is accompanied by a Roman Catholic chapel. The tree is expected to be between 400 and 500 years old.

Yes, I am back. After a period of too much work, (That isn't solved yet) a lack of motivation (almost solved) and living without a camera (that is solved) I am returning to the wonderful TrekNature.

Yesterday, I went on my first trip with my new camera. The goal was to find orchids and some testing of the camera. On my way back I drove by this tree. It was still early afternoon with too much sun and a high temperature. But, I knew that this tree had potential if photographed just before sunset. Back home I used a map and the sun position compass to determine the position of the sun at sunset and used that to pre-determine my position. I returned later that evening to notice that a line of trees will block the real sunset and that the window of light was small.

I positioned my tripod between the dirt road and the paved bicyle path and used the Cow Parsley as a foreground element. I used a CP filter to saturate the colors. A grad ND filter was used to balance the exposure. The dirt road was just too bright. I positioned the filter with the soft edge from the far right tree to the Cow Parsley. This gave me a even exposed photo.

Hallo Niek
I have not seen you for ages, and although I do not know you that well, I can asure you that you are missed on the site. This is real great image which you have chosen to return to Trek Nature. I see the dusty road as a sign that your new path on Trek Nature has begun and that you are going to enjoy every moment of it with your new camera. This is very peaceful and relaxing scenery to look at. The greenery in abundance in the scenery is really great and creates the feeling of summer. Looking at the green grass, gives the feeling that you want to kick off your shoes and run on the green grass like a youngster. Thanks for sharing this lovely landscape. Kind regards.
Anna

Hi Niek,
it's truly great to see you back here my friend, i have missed your postings and critiques alot! You return with a really stunning shot. Your planning with the sun map has obviously paid off here, the light is very well postioned and given you shadows that add to the overall composition. Well chosen POV, great composition and perfectly exposed.
tfs and hope to see some more soon!
Paul

Hi Niek and a very warm welcome back!!!

Nice new camera you have!
Great to see you are back to taking trips and photos and this one here is lovely, with a beautiful composition created by those leading lines.
The big old trees in the BG are also wonderful and they act well as focus points, while the low evening light creates a calm and relaxing mood for the entire scene.

Any luck with wild orchids? If you ever feel like exploring something new and interesting, i've just returned from a terrific place in the north-western part of Romania where there are some amazing and unique habitats for all sort of wildlife and flora, including wild orchids (i managed to get some shots myself).
By the way...i forgot to ask you in my reply on your critique: what are you doing this weekend? If you are free, wouldn't you like to come to Bournemouth as well? It would be a lot of fun! ;)

Cheers and TFS
Horia

hallo Niek,

mijn oog viel meteen op het woord kroezeboom.
bij Fleringen niet waar?
een prachtige foto. De compositie vind ik mooi.
de contouren van het fluitkrui vind ik terug in de contouren van de boom.

hartelijke groeten Gerdi

Hello Niek,
How are you! delighted to see your beautiful posting once again captured with your new camera, my congrat!
very good image with a great displayed of light and shadows here also with a good depth!
a well balanced colour contrast and scenery
well done
see you around!
Tony

Hallo Niek,

Hello Niek,
The wild flowers by the roadside is an attractive view this time of year!
A fine composition with rich colours, the warm evening light adds attraction value...
------
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for support and advice during my time here!
It has been great and I have learned a lot through the many fine presentations in TrekNature!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Niek

It kind of goes without saying that I'm glad to see you back...

hope you like the camera. It took me a little while to get the hang of the buttons being in a totally different location and the difference between the two on positions as well was interesting at first, though I have to say that I prefer the 40D, though it is not very light for mountaineering but....

Great light and camera placement... the trees in the BG are great, off centre, top third etc...

I'm not posting much at the moment because I am finalizing my prints for a large exhibition and then I am off up to Scotland for a week on Saturday... hoping for semi-decent weather to try out the new lens...

Hope the insurance comes through soon - I have to put the framing on my 16 prints on VISA as well, so understand very well...

June 20/21/22 are thoughts at the moment for Amsterdam, though the previous weekend is also a possibility...

TFS and Take care]

Emma

Hello Niek, clever composition, great light and perfect exposure, very good work my friend! Another one of your great landscape shots, thanks!

Mario

Hoi Niek,

Groetjes, Nel

Hey Niek. Very dramatic low lighting, probably enhanced even more with your grad filter. Well done.
Mike
P.S. Cool on the new camera. But I thought you were a Nikon man?

Hi Niek

Nice to see you back again, I was about to send out a search party. What kept you away?

I think the light is lovely here, great warm tones and nice long shadows. Interesting note to go with the photo. Beautifully composed as well with the interesting details in the FG and the path leading us to the subject at the back.

Nice to have you back

Very nice landscape with great light and beautiful colours.
Very well done.

Kind regards

Beautiful shot. The flowers in the front, and the road leading to the hut at the back, with soft golden light of the setting sun falling on it look wonderful! Great artistic composition.
