As I see Syrphidae are your favourite flies :) Nice capture of Volucella, species which I know also from my region (but here it is not too common). Good POVs and details. Nice control of flash too :)

You did an excellent portrait of Volucella zonaria here, Marie-Christine. The composition with the Ivy flowers is particularly successful, it brings the subdued colors of the fly out. And you got great sharpness and avoided the pitfalls of flashlight . Well done, my congratulations.

Excellent shot of this large hoverfly species - I saw these in the UK a few weeks ago also feeding on Ivy flowers. The flash had brought out the details and created a sharp image.

I marvel at your knowledge of the insect world! Also at your expertise in photographing these small insects. Ths Syrphid Fly atop the fascinating looking plant is wonderful. Excellent colors, sharp details and textures. Great use of the flash - I see nothing at all wrong with the focus.

Hello Marie,

This is a very fine close-up of this insect. You have chosen a very good DOF and succeded to keep in focus both insect and flower beneath. Therefore fine sharp details can be seeen on both. You have made good use of the flas and got nice staurated and natural looking colors.
