After fridays mono photo, I thought a splash of color in my gallery wouldn't hurt. This is a photo taken last spring at a new nature area. It's called the Break-through since it connects a creek and river.

It is slated to be finished by 2014: a 13-kilometre-long new stream called De Doorbraak. Such a stream is needed in Twente to give its water more space, to prevent flooding and dehydration, and to establish an ecological connection between Northeast Twente and the Crest of Salland. The stream will be a doorbraak, or breakthrough, for water management, agriculture, and nature.

Managing water, creating space. This phrase in the water management plan 2002-2005 of the Regge en Dinkel district water board delineates the most important objective of the water board. The water board’s goal continues to be ‘to provide the right quantity of good quality water everywhere and always’; but the Twente water board also wants to give the water the space that it deserves. The realisation of such a balanced water management system requires optimal coordination with those who are responsible for town and country planning, agriculture, nature, the environment, and recreation.

The joint project of the water board and the province of Overijssel fulfils the above mentioned objective superlatively. This is given form through the realisation of De Doorbraak, establishing a very important part of a resilient water system for Twente. De Doorbraak: a future-oriented project for future generations of people, animals and plants.

At first the large cluster of flowers atracked me from a distance while walking along the creek. Arriving at the flowers I saw how the tree line, the creek and the clouds all met in the center of the photo. The decision to actually center the horizon and break the rules was quickly made.

THis is very similar to the Ouse Washes. Great low pov and excellent exposure. Interesting note too.

Hello Niek,
What a beautiful view across the flowering meadows and I like the lines of trees and stream (and clouds!) meeting at the horizon!
Excellent POV, sharp details and wonderful colours. This is very similar to our wetlands!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Niek!

Although I had my bath of colours today - I was on my first ski hiking tour of this winter - I appreciate the spring colours very much. It's a simple and plain picture, yet very pleasant. I also appreciate the interesting and instructive notes. The composition with the line of the tree and the one of the channel joining at the horizon is well seen.

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Niek

This is really wonderful, my friend!
I think the idea to break the 50-50 rule here was excellent...i simply can't imagine this composed without the linear cloud or without the flowers in the FG.
Very beautiful lines that indeed converge all in the same spot...how rare yet how well captured.
The place itself looks amazing and i would love to have a stroll around here in the beginning of the summer...i'm sure its absolutely full on dragonflies and damselflies.
Great to see at least one nation supports nature and helps it regain a small part of the lost territory.

Cheers and TFS
Horia

Hi Niek,

This isn't strictly a 50 -50 composition. That grand sweeping curve of the trees breaks the horizon. I love the convergence of all the lines. It is very effective. I especially like the inclusion of the flowers in the foreground and the triangle shape they make. Very nice!

Hi Neik. I can see what turned your eye to this area. with colourful wild flowers. The stream looks healthy already with a fair amount of weed. You have a very nice compostion. My eyes are taken up into the distance. well done TFS. Interesting notes too.

The kind of shot this lens was made for and a nice taste of spring too! The centrally placed horizon works well here, allowing the use of the trees on the left and making the most of the highly detailed flowers in the FG. Well exposed with all elements really drawing in the eye...looks like a beautiful place!

Hi niek,

this is a really nice shot. All the elements in it have come together beautifully to make a perfect composition.
The bursts of colour in the bottom left really are beautiful.

I was moving back and forth trying to get the date set in my head...what a gorgeous landscape Niek! Colours we could use..it is gray and dismal out here in the western US...at least in my portion. This is a remnant of a different season...It is always a good memory and something to look forward to...

Hallo Niek,

Zo verschillend in begroeiing.
