Hi Niek,
you know this sort of photo for me has a rather personal feel to it ,one that really only works when one is alone and at peace with the world.I have always loved trees and this photo only strengthens that emotion.Trees are probably the most evocative of life there is on our planet as they can not be missed and are the longest lived things there are on earth.Generations of people come and go,yet trees remain and the stories they could tell if they could. This end of the day shot is wonderful for the feeling it transmits and a rather artful image as well. The hard thing for me is how to critique an image of this sort and still give out points when I can see nothing about it that needs improvement, maybe it is time that TN allow us to give out the points without a lot of fuss about how an image can be done better.I like this photo very much and thank you,sir for sharing it with us. Helo Niek,
A very artistical and fine picture. It reminds me of some paintings of the German painter Caspar David Friedrich. You have caught such subtle color-tones and the composition also is magnificent. A great shot indeed.
BRAVO!

Hello Niek! Amazing lonely tree. Wonderful light and shadow. Good contrast. Very good take. Well done!
This is your "signature" tree. I remember that Emma had one. (I wonder how she is). I suppose it might be a good idea for one to have such a tree as constant to record the change of seasons and weather and time of day. Western Oregon is known for its trees but I can't think of one particular tree that would suffice for that purpose.
This is a nice, peaceful image. You balanced the exposure nicely retaining color and details throughout. I'm curious as to using a hard edged ND rather than a soft. There is a rather hard horizon line in this shot but perhaps that is just Dutch flat lands?? I don't own a hard edge filter so am not familiar with using it.
I hope you get some good photography weather soon. I know how you feel. We are to get snow and frigid temperatures for much of the next week.

I'm glad that your camera is happy with its gift! : )

Hello Niek,
Simple and very beautiful! I love the pastel colours of the sky and I think I recognise the beautiful silhouette of the tree!

Hi Niek!
You're right about the clouds, the other photo you linked here has a more interesting sky. But I don't think that makes it boring, just gives it another atmosphere. Anyway I like this shot too just like the other one, so TFS!
Best regards,
Andor

Hallo Niek
Excellent composition and colours, amazing detail and feeling captured. Wonderful landscape! This image can easily be used as a photo on a post card or as a picture on the wall. Really beautiful and serene atmosphere. Just love the arrangements of colours in the sky, and I am sure I see a tiny bird on the left hand side of the tree on one of the branches or are my eyes playing games with me? Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards.
Anna
Hi Niek
I remember this tree very well from you very nice filter test :)
Indeed it hasn't changed much...leaves aside :)
The setting is again very nice and i understand you going out on a nice clear day, after a whole 3 weeks of grey.
The composition here is lovely and the positioning of the tree is great - both on the horizontal and on the vertical (which its lowest branches over the horizon...an older discussion we had on one photo).
However, i think you could have used a slight darker filter (maybe 0.9) because i still think the difference between the sky and the elements on the ground is a bit much. On the other hand, i'm doing this from my girlfriend's computer and it might not be that good as my monitor back home...but it is calibrated .
Anyway, it's still a lovely setting that looks great.
Bravo and TFS

Hi Niek,
even all trees are never similar, what more the naked ones.
This one with the solemn and gloomy environment makes the leafless clear and striking. It stands outstandingly when you put you horizontal line of the land just above the trunk and allow the mist to govern the two thirds of the frame. A well thought and it is never a coincident.
Beautifully composed.

Foozi

Hi Niek,
I love the simplicity of this composition. Pure, clean and peaceful with sense of solitude. The sunset light is magical, very beautiful and soft colors, not overly saturated.
Beautiful naturally. Thanks.
