I thought I should continue my Avifauna postings. Avifauna is a beuatiful Birds Park in NL and loads of lovely birds are present.

A few facts about Flamingo's (Phoenicopterus ruber):

1. All flamingos are found in tropical and subtropical areas.

2. Populations of Chilean flamingos are found in central Peru, both coasts of southern South America (mainly in the winter), Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and southern Brazil. Stragglers have been reported on the Falkland Islands.

3. The flamingo's most characteristic habitats are large alkaline or saline lakes or estuarine lagoons that usually lack vegetation. Lakes may be far inland or near the sea.

4. Flamingos are generally non-migratory birds. However, due to changes in the climate and water levels in their breeding areas, flamingo colonies are not always permanent.

5. Flamingo vocalizations range from nasal honking to grunting or growling. Flamingos are generally very noisy birds. Variations exist in the voices of different species of flamingos.

6. Most flamingo predators are other species of birds.
Experts have not yet determined how long flamingos live. At the Philadelphia Zoo, one flamingo lived 44 years.

You may hit me as hard as you can! Seriously; just write what you think, positive or negative. I can use the lesson and I can really take the criticism. Thank you very much for taking the time to look at and criticize my photo. It is highly appreciated!

Beautiful photo, very good colors.
I like very much the shape of its teeth.
Very good note.
Nico.

Scary teeth - they look like metal pins!
An excellent portrait, stunning.
Incredible detail, I can't believe how strong the colour is. They always look so subtle from a distance. I recently read at Marwell zoo that they put dye in their food so that they keep their colour. Is this the same at your bird park?
Excellent pov. Well done and thanks for posting.

Excellent crisp, clean shot. A beauty.
Well done on the composition and details.

honestly, shame about the black frame, it doesn't work for this beautiful image.

What time did you shoot this one, excellent lighting.

Mike

Beautiful bird, lovely colors and pose!
The details are very sharp and the BG blurred enough.
I agree with Mike about the black frame, it does'nt work.
I love the teeth, superb work Pieter!

Well done!

Hello Pieter!
Excellent! Just perfect shot in my beloloved (red) colour :-)

One angry looking Flamingo Pieter. He's a bit grubby too, so maybe he didn't like you showing this side of him. Good capture, great colours and details. There's no problems that I can find. And I love the frame too. Well done.

Excellent clarity and detail in this shot! The open beak is an amazing bonus. I would agree, though, that the black border doesn't really add anything to the photo.

Wow, great brilliant color, Pieter!
Excellent details, POV and BG in this interesting composition.
I might have forgone the black border/frame, however, it is personal.
Thank you for sharing this great posting.
I didn't realize that they have teeth...

Amazing clarity and colour to this image Pieter, detail and composition are excellent. Its a very striking capture. The border is the only nit I have with this. Very fine work, well done.

Great shot Pieter,
Good sharp detail and colours. Great POV, well composed and nicely exposed. A masterpiece from your hand, Perfect timing.
Thanks for posting

Hello Pieter,
An excellent shot.
Perfectly exposed,great colours and detail.
I never knew they had such fearsome teeth!
Great work,well done.

Hello Pieter, This may be the first time I've been able to actually count the teeth of a flamingo in a capture ;-)) Razor sharp, excellent details, colors, exposure, DOF and POV. Very well done! P.S. Oh yeah, IMHO, a solid black border would work better here...

Hi Pieter,
Now that is an outstanding portrait of this Flamingo. The pose is great. Color and detail are perfect. An excellent photo!!!

What a fantastic portrait!
Incredible details of the teeth!
The colour and composition are perfect!
SUPERB!

Very good picture, Pieter.
I agree with the others about the frame, it's not nice, otherwise its a great picture.
Beautiful colours, good POV, well composed and good details.
Great work, my friend.

Hello Pieter!
Wonderful shot.Vivid colors, expression on face, lighting and composition are perfect. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Pieter

A beautiful subject, and I think, one of your best photos. Really good sharpness, excellent plain blurred background but most of all the exposure is spot on. Lots of detail in the dark beak but also the light skin and the eye.
Not a criticism, just a comment, but I'd like to see more of the bird - and more space then to exen it out. That is of course not an option on an 800 pixel photo without losing detail but I expect a large print on the wall would look great!
Very well done.
Andy.

Wow, Pieter! Are you sure this is flamingo, not camouflaged shark? These teeth look dangerous ;-) Excellent portrait! Red tones, sharpness, pose and teeth ;-) - all superb.

This is absolute perfection Pieter. Beautiful subject. Awesome tack sharp details. Can almost count the teeth. Fantastic plumage colour. Wonderful. Thanks.

Hi Pieter, I have to say I've never seen a flamingo up close. I think your image is fantastic in every way, doing great justice to the bird. The fact that I don't much like the shape of the bird's beak is neither here 'nor there and neither its fault nor yours *grin*. The sharpness and colours are fantastic and it is very nicely composed. I'm going out on a limb here and saying I like the black border :)

hellp:) beauty colors and exellent DOF:) really it has very nice teeth:) great capture:)

Hi Pieter, very nice portrait. The colours are great and very well done to get one with a this gape. Very good detailed shot, well done.

When this guys, open the mouth, they seem to have it up side down. Very nice quality, excellent detail and allow me to say that the framing does not meet my personal preferences this time :D
For the rest, a great shot, good work and TFS.

Hi Pieter. Greetings from Seattle, Washington, one of the stops on my vacation. I just had to come online and check out your photos. Did not want to miss anything. I like your title. You are so silly and you make me laugh : )
I never knew that flamingoes had "teeth" on their beaks until you showed me. That bird's pose is hilarious. A great capture, with sharp details and good light. Well done and TFS. : )

Excellent details & sharpness, perfect composition and great colours. Fantastic work! Well done, Pieter.

Pieter, this is a great Portrait of the flamingo. First time I have seen its "teeth". Lovely colors and details. Like your frame too. :)

Very well done.

A stunning capture, Pieter! I didn't think birds had teeth...are those some sort of strainers? Lovely!

Alli

nice shot m8 ha ha ha wheres his teeth lol

Hi there :)

Love the teeth, don't love the frame. It is a stunning pic, very sharp with great colours. you caught him perfectly with his "mond vol tanden" .. My camera is fixed, picking it up tomorrow !! YEAH..

Elize

Razor shrarp Pieter, don'tthink I've seen the inside of a flamingo's mouth before. Well done.

By seeing all these teeth, it is here that I realize that not to be a shrimp, it is an advantage. LOL
The frame is a tasteful question but it does not really harm here. On the other hand, I wonder what are all these circles in the bottom of the image? As for the composition, for the colour, for the neatness of details, I am delighted, it is a good work.

Ahhh!
Glad to see this admirable shot and glad to see you, too!
very well captured and congratulation for this fine result, skilfully captured with excellent sharpness and details and wonderful colors and all are real, nicely used of DOF and a best shot you reached, very well composed and I enjoy it very much,Thanks for note, very useful,Pieter.
Best Regards
M

What a great opportunity, Pieter. You didn't missed it! Amazing image, well caught on the right time. Wonderful colors and feathers details. The dentist will be happy with this one too. The frame? Well I think it has been said yet. Wasn'it Peter Sellers (also pink, but the panther) who said "Nobody's perfect" after creating one of his typical catastrophic situations...

This close up is very good. The details of the mouth are amazing. Congratulations for this one.
