Knobbelzwanen zijn de bekende zwanen die vaak in stadsparken of boerensloten te zien zijn. Oorspronkelijk kwamen deze grote watervogels uitsluitend in Oost-Europa voor. Maar van wege hun sierlijke uiterlijk (en hun vlees) zijn deze grote vogels in veel landen ingevoerd. Een deel is nog steeds vrij tam, andere zijn verwilderd en leven nu als vrije vogels in die landen.
