Often I prefer to see all the insect, but here because of the shallow DOF we could see only the head of the Drone Fly and in fact I like it ;-) Thanks for sharing Jaap.

Hi Jaap,
Although the DOF is shallow here, it works well. The colors are really nice, and the detail on the fly's head is sharp. Interesting and informative notes too.

Nice & sharp, good composition.

I would have maybe used more depth (f/11 or f/16). Also there's a bit too much light on the bottom, you loose some details.

Hello Jaap,
a wonderful view of this fly. The face and the big eyes have excellent sharpness. I also like the softly background, nothing is disturbing from these pretty eyes.
I'm a little sad that all the insects are going to die now, it was my great passion these year to look and learn from them.
I hope, everybody has some shots in the archive so that we sometimes can look at them in winter. Bye, have a nice evening

I very much like how you have constructed this shot, Jaap.

Sometimes the shallow DOF works very well to enhance the photo, which IMHO, is the case here.

Face to face with Jaap ;-) Excellent POV. Very detailed macro with good sharpness. Interesting subject. DOF is slightly short but we, owners of compacts, know that f8 is our max :-)

Photo looks superb, has good details and light.
The DOF may seem to be too shallow, but I think it looks very good here and gives nice depth.

Dit is dichtbij zeg! De ogen zijn prachtig, maar ik zou wel een hogere f hebben geprobeerd. DOF is a little shallow. Composition and POV are very good. Well done & TFS!

Focus is perfect where it has to be - on the head/eyes.

Some overexposure on the bottom of the picture, but that's a minor nit.

This is a good macro, Jaap.
It's sharp where it counts, the DOF is always shallow in these close-ups even if you use a DSLR with F22.
