[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Another beauty from the Berkenhof butterfly gardens.

This time it's the Attacus Atlas. It is the largest butterfly on earth. Each wing is the size of a hand. The Attacus Atlas lives in South-East Asia and China. The wingtips look like snake heads to keep predators away.
This one is holding on to a cocoon with a pop inside it.

Actually this is a moth. Moths or nightflying butterflies can in general be distinguished by the sensors. A butterfly has a narrow sensor with a slight thickening at the top. Whereas moths often have comb like sensors. I will post details of the combs of this one later.

Moths are easy catches for us photographers as they sleep/sit still during the day ;-)

Hi Jan
Goed om te sien jy is terug, en dit met so 'n mooi, vet mot! These are the guys that can smell pheromones kms away. Very nice one you caught an beautifully rendered. Thanks for sharing.

A truly impressive moth Jan. The metallic sheen on its wings would camouflage well with the 'skin' on the banana tree? That trees skin itself is interesting, almost like the skin of a scaled cod.A very good picture all around.

A great capture, Jan. TFS.

WOW, I was looking at the detail of the antena and hadnt seen this one. I imagined the moth from the detailed and know I see I am impressed, nothing to do with what I imagined. Fantastic shot.
