Cygnus Cygnus. Dutch translation: Wild Swan.
From the 3 of Europe's most common swans is this the most noisiest one. During their flight you can recognise them by their loud trumpetlike sounds.
An exeption are their wing-beats, these are more or less "noiseless" in comparison with other swans.
Remarkable is the pattern of the beak. No two individuals have the same beak marking.
Size: 152 cm
Breeding area: Northern Eurasia e.g. Iceland and Lapland.
In the Netherlands they are only to spot in winter time from November until April.
I photographed this one on a sunday morning. They where with 8 of them, eating grass from the ground. The birds where remarkable calm and easy to reach. |

Mooi portret van een wilde zwaan. Jammer dat de snavel niet helemaal scherp is. Geweldig dat je zo dichtbij kon komen
Waar heb je deze zwaan gezien?
groet,
Zeno.

Now there's a face only a mother could love. You have captured it well. what a look and no doubt a very busy beak. Well done.

Hello Ruud,
Funny guy, obviously in the middle of his meal..!
Good DOF, nice colours and details... Maybe the lighting is a bit confusing as it brightens the head only...
Greetings,
Pablo -
Mooie foto. Inderdaad knap dat je zo dicht bij kan komen. Volgens mij is de snavel wel scherp. Maar ik kan het mogelijk verkeerd zien.
Knappe foto.
