Wasp

This wasp has given me some hard time. It was constantly walking with hard pace. All pics were out of focus. I put jam on the table, hoping it would eat and remains quiet. I brought it several times back to the jam. No succes at all.
Suddently the miracle happened:
I used a new cover for the pot I was using for transportation of the wasp back to the jam: a cartoon beer mat.
The wasp just started to eat the beer mat. It liked it so much that it stayed there one hour long, only eating and not moving at all.
I could take a lot of shots, in all sort of light conditions.
On this shot, I put a black paper behind. the light comes from the sun (behind and a little on the left). I wished I could go closer. I can normally go 3cm close with my camera, but here the beer mat was in the way.

What I like the most in this pic, is that it shows that wasps have hair. It is a common wasp and when we look at them in usual light conditions, we just can't see they have hair.
I dislike the piece of dust on its back, and the lights effect above the hind leg and in front of the mouth. I thought it is worth sharing anyway. Hope you will like.

Crop 60%. Contrast and sharpness increased. Quality and size decreased for publication on TN.

Hi, JeanMarie!
You are great at macros but you are still greater as writer of short stories. I read your note and laughed at the "hard pace" and laughed still more at the beer dependance of this tiny alcoholic;)
Excellent work!
Anton

Hi JeanMarie,
A great note :-) Good macro shot too. The dust and the light spot are a little distracting I agree, but I wouldn't say they detract from the picture. Nice detail and good natural colours, nice shot.

Adrian

Hallo JeanMarie,

Very beautiful macro! Great composition and POV showing the wasp against a dark BG! DOF is a bit shallow, a minor point though. Excellent picture overall. Thanks for sharing!

Regards,
Eddie

JeanMarie, beer does wonders for all creatures, human and insect alike. I like this guy as much as he liked the beer mat. Great idea to slow him down. Did he have a hangover afterwards? Great shot, nonetheless.
