Polyommatus icarus.

It’s a small butterfly with gleaming blue upper part, narrow black line near the edges and white tassel. The lower part is grey brown with black, wit rim spot and a range orange spots along the edges of the behind wings. Females are of above brown, with some blue and orange spots. The span of the wings is about 25 mm. In the Netherlands they live everywhere in the country. You must seek them, but if you do, you will find them. In one year comes 1 till 3 new generations out of the eggs.



The butterflies and the caterpillars suck nectar. They get it from flowers from difference sorts of spice. Some of the caterpillars try to over live the winter, and comes in spring out of the cocoons. The further development goes afterwards very fast, of generation on generation. There very many blue ones exist and it is often a laborious work, distinguish them of each other. A lake or less clear blue colour to the upper part, and small spots around the eyes, is to base is all types own. The caterpillars of some types become by fiddle visited, because the sweet juice which they break away.

Today I go farther. I try 800 asa out, with this 70-300 mm lens and the canon close up lens 5ooD. This last one you can use as a filter, you can screw it up.
I used it together with a speedlight 420 ex. You know I get pleasure in it, because it's working. Oke, it's not perfect yet, but believe me that will come later. I hope you like it.

Hi Jaap,
that's such a lovely shot, I like this tiny butterfly, special to see his long tongue and the antennas with the stripes in black and white. Nobody can tell me why so many butterflies have Antennas like a Zebra.

Hi Jaap,
Another good experiment. I think the detail is just a little soft, possibly from camera movement? Lovely colours though and great exposure. Good DOF and a nice neutral background. Great work from you again.

Beautiful picture with very good colours and composition.
I think that the picture is not sharp enough, my advice is to use open aperture, with f25 the diffraction can ruin the picture sharpness.

Very nice color and light, great POV and details.
Excellent framing with this smooth BG working very well also..I know that the stacked lens are giving you greater working distance, and in macro that's a very good thing :) I must say that @ 1/125th you might've pulled down more sharpness, if it was feasible to use a tripod here.

Misschien moet ik deze eens proberen, daar zal ik meer kans toe krijgen, want ze zijn niet groot maar wel donzig zoals u op de foto kan zien, ten anderen uw serie was schitterend om van te likkebaarden, steeds mooi verzorgd en netje gepresenteerd. Mooi werk Jaap

Als eerst vielen mij het mooie zachte licht en kleuren op, gecombineerd met een perfect achtergrond. Daarna zag ik pas de kop van de vlinder. Deze heb je erg mooi weten te fotograferen, al etende en alsof hij naar je kijkt. Ik denk dat je experiment goed gelukt is.

HI Jaap, nice butterfly. The composition is very nice indeed and the BG is very nicely blurred too. I think the insect is a little soft in focus here but F25 at 1/125 is asking alot! Well done.
