[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Damselfly (Suborder Zygoptera) is an insect in the Order Odonata. Damselflies are similar to dragonflies, but the adults can be differentiated by the fact that the wings of most damselflies are held along the body when at rest. Furthermore, the hindwing of the damselfly is essentially similar to the forewing, while the hindwing of the dragonfly broadens near the base, caudal to the connecting point at the body. Damselflies are also usually smaller, and weaker fliers than dragonflies, and their eyes are separated.

Damselflies undergo incomplete metamorphosis, with an aquatic nympal stage. The female lays eggs in water, sometimes in underwater vegetation, or high in trees in bromeliads and other water-filled cavities. Nymphs are carnivorous, feeding on daphnia, mosquito larvae, and various other small aquatic organisms. The gills of damselfly nymphs are large and external, resembling three fins at the end of the abdomen. After molting several times, the winged adult emerges and eats flies, mosquitoes, and other small insects. Some of the larger tropical species are known to feed on spiders, hovering near the web and simply plucking the spider from its perch there.

hi teunie,
amazing capture of the damselfly having lunch! :-)
i didn´t manage to get of those this summer.
good composition and nice sharpness on where the "action" is.
well seen & captured, thorsten.

hi teunie

Hello Teunie,
Excedllent close up.I liked POV,big eyes, moment you caught, limited DOF you managed, framing and composition a lot.
TFS...:-)

Hi
Great moment. Realy nice photo. It would be even better if you crop it more from the right side and a little bit from the bottom. Then you could show us the portrait of the damselfly while eating a dinner without the part on the right side which is disturbing. I post the workshop
Best wishes
Krzysztof

Bonito disparo.
Gracias y saludos... Ricardo

Great POV that you captured Teunie here to show us to the dragonfly in the middle of lunch (or will it be newly the breakfast?).
Adjusted DOF offers an interesting OOF back with good framing and control of the light.
Nice shot.
Thank you and greetings... Ricardo

Hi Teunie,
Greatly capturing this damselfly holding its prey [mosquito?]. Very neat image. Well frame. I wish I could see this shot at a deeper DoF. However, this is already a superb shot.

Dag Teuni,

Bedankt

Hello Teunie

What a very beautiful macro work here! If i were an invertebraes specialist, i think i could even name the prey :)
Excellent frontal POV, great DOF, crispy clear details and lovely colors.
Very nicely framed and very well composed.

Bravo and TFS

Hi Teunie,

Very good macro. DOF is very shallow, f6.3 could probably have brought the whole insect in focus. The clarity of the eyes, however, makes the photo for me. Well done.

Good shot and write, well done.

Very good detail on the head, perfectly focussed, considering the very shallow depth of field. Quite difficult to do!
Good composition as well
The note seems a bit strange, though, like you've copied and pasted it from somewhere, but not read if it makes any sense, which it doesn't!

Hello Teunie,
very nice shot, I never seen a damselfly during lunch so this is very interesting. POV is very nice the almost frontal aproach gives a nice view of those beautiful eyes. Maybe a bit shollow on the DOF, but the important details are nice and sharp. Very well done.

Hi Teunie,
A very good shot on this Damselfly having a little snack. Good sharp detail in the head area with a pleasing falloff in the DOF.The colors and exposure are spot on here. Well done!

Hello Teunie,
What an amazing capture! This is very stunning. You were at the right place at the right time. This is a great action catch! Details are very good with excellent lightning and sharpness. I liked Cataclysta’s WS as well; this is an other way to look at it. TFS,

bonsoir

Well done Teunie.
Great headshot with some very good details, and I like the POV. The damselfly is very small, so this one was not easy..
Hard to get a shot with prey so well seen. It looks like the damsel is starting at the rear, and working it's way up :)
Have a Great Week mf!

Hello Teunie,
fascinating close up of a fairy tale creature that looks like a little angel but acts like a little demon.
But it seems to be a mosquito that is devoured by lady damselfly, so the pity I feel for the victim is rather limited, I have to confess.
Perfect focus, phantastic colours, beautiful light!
With thanks, and best regards,
Peter

Ciao a presto

Hello Teunie,
This is a nice portrait of (most probably) male of Ischnura elegans.
The DOF is close but I like it :)
Maybe some noise reduction would be good :)
Best greetings,
Radomir

Very good shot! I like very much the great detail and the colours.

Hi Teunie

I was looking for a new posting, but could not find one so I selected this older one which for some strange reason I have missed.

A lovely macro shot with a well selected aperture application for a shallow DOF thus focusing on the facial features and the meal rather than the whole insect. The details in the chosen area are very sharp and I would think it was a very successful experiment. The composition has a good setup with the dried up plant on the left running at an angle and the Damselfly clinging on to its dinner and the plant. The BG is well OOF and the exposure control was well handled.

Good work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hi, dear Teunie.
Thank you for interest and kind comments. Unfortunately, this your shot was till this moment last un critiqued by me your picture. I am waiting your new shots and as well shots of your husband.

You managed to picture a very interesting scene. The twig, head of the damselfly and its prey are reproduced perfectly. Shot is exposed very well despite the complex light conditions. Its composition is perfect too. My heart wishes and beat regards.
Alexei.

Bravo !
Antoine.

Such a superb macro, Teunie--very nicely photographed. Your photos are all amazing.
