I have absolutely no knowledge of funghi but I agree this is lovely. I'm not sure what I like best, the funghi or the beautiful moss. Lovely testures and colours. nice POV and composition. Wonderful woodland floor shot

It's funny that I too took a series of fungi photos on our last trip and know nothing about them either. Sometimes it is fun to take something other THAN landscape photos : )
I love the little starry moss in the foreground of your very sharp image. You have great color here and an interestng subject.

Hi Niek,
The image has a good composition with the surrounding environment.Light management and DOF are superb. What a shot when surrounded by 50 mosquitoes!
Well done & TFS.

It looks like a Scleroderma critrinum to me, but I dont know this specie, and the areolatum seems to be more rare and not very convincing... make a search you will find plety of photos of S.citrinum.
The shot is descriptive and has a good angle, but it is a bit harsh in the sharpening for my personal taste.
Thanks Niek, my best welcome to the fungi "club" ;)
Regards, Felipe.

Good natural shot, but if it was covered with mosquitoes I do believe I would have left this shot alone! ;)

Hi Niek
Very nice shot of this intersting mushroom.
The details and colors are excellent, the light great and the framing very beautiful. Also very nice contrast between it and the lovely green moss.
Very well done!
Bravo and TFS

Hi Niek!
How strange I shot similar fungus at the peak of rainy season in India in an alpine forest in my native place in the Himalayas this year.
The mushroom looks very natural, giving a detailed cross section view of its split open interior.
Well done and TFS.

Hola Niek.- Muy agradable foto, Yo tampoco conosco mucho sobre los Hongos, los cuales son muy escasos en estas tierras, sobre todo aqui en las regiones semideserticas.
Saludos Luis52.

Neik,
Your images are always of excellent quality. This one too is well focused & presented.
The CLARITY is excellent. One can see the "inners" of this mushroom.
Congrats.,
Mario.

Salut Niek
Elle est superbe cette prise de vue avec ce beau macro de ce beau champignon que nous appelons communément ici une vesse de loup, les couleurs et la présentation tout est joli. J'en vois souvent et ils on l'air appétissants.
Bravo et merci....JP

normally i would pass this by and look for a 'better' specimen...but you have made the best of this...with all components present we can see what it looked like and not be concerned about 'lost detail'
usual canon biting sharpnes..:grrrr:
and tonal range suitable to the subject..subdued and shadowed background amplifies the tone and texture of the fungi
cheers
