[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The last couple of weeks, I've been out capturing fall. I am trying to capture it in a different way then I would normally capture nature, just to practise my eye. I caught myself a few times to return to the more familiar way. But I think I pulled it of a few time to come back with something 'special'.

I was on my way to a little lake and walked by this patch of June Berry trees (Amelanchier lamarckii) I found the view interesting and the way the canopy filtered the light.

I've been a little bit more creative with my PP work on this photo, and I am not really sure if this will be appreciated. If not, just see the other version that I have created in the workshop. In this one I did the normal conversion from RAW to JPEG, with some white balance adjustments. I adjusted levels, curves and saturation. I also cloned out a really strange black spot. The twist to this version is the blur I added, just to give a little more focus on the center of the photo. The WS doesn't have the blur, but does have the adjustments on levels, curves and saturation but less of everything.

Please let me know what you think of this kind of photo and treatment....be honest.

Hello Niek,
An excellent expression of autumn... contrasty and sad!
I like the light filtering through the branches, bringing some warmth to the scenery after all...
By the way... an interesting place!
Greetings,

Interesting composition, it does have a lovely autumnal feel with the colours. I like the POV

Hello my friend Niek,
very nice and creative idea, well done,

Hi Niek,
I like this atmosphere, summer has gone, but it's so quiet and relaxing to look at the forrest that makes itself ready for a winter-sleep. I also went outside to see this today - all the yellow leaves, some on the trees, some just falling down. Have my shot at TL today.
Thanks for sharing yours, bye and greetings

Hi Niek,

Be honest?... hum!!! What can I say? I am not used to see this kind of picture from you Niek. It is important to experiment with different subjects. It's part of the learning process and it is important to know the opinion of others. Is it not the goal of Trek? I personnaly would rather have bad critiques on my pictures than not having any critiques at all as it is unfortunately often the case on Trek when I know I've posted a bad picture. How can your learn then?
Well you have an interresting atmosphere here. The leaves on the ground and the bare trees do capture the essence of fall very well. What bothers me here is that there is to much distraction, to much trees. Having blured the picture to bring us to the middle of the picture does not help me. I would have like to see a forest with a lot more distance between the trees to open up the space and better see the deepness of the forest and the ground filled with the dead leaves.

I do hope that you will appreciate my critique.

Hi Niek,
I agree with you this is a different way of seing fall. This is an original post with good details and interesting POV. I prefer those yellow tones of colors in the version you published but I think that the WS version shows more details... Both of these version are interesting though so it's hard to say which one I like best. Thanks,
Claudine

Niek,
Love reading your notes. You write with so much care.
The colours are so well captured. Great contrasts.
Am enjoying your work.
Best regards,
Mario.

I think I have to agree with Patrick on this one, Niek. I think the problem here is that you really don't have a strong element to build the composition around. This is very busy. I do like the colors and the thought that goes into your postings.

Hi Niek,

Great Pic.

Just thought that there was more of a yellow cast. If that could be worked on, wont the pic look better?

Its just a thought. Also would have loved to see the same pic in B/W to see the hues of grey.

I am not a experienced photographer, but just my thoughts.
