Hi Niek,
A beautiful landscape of this reasonable well preserved valley. I like the uniform dark green vegetation. I read your notes and I see that industrial development and modern agriculture is devastating environment in many places. The way unplanning progress is going in not the best I'm afraid.
Best regard, José M.

Hello Niek,
I notice the fallen tree decomposing! I guess regulations for national parks prevent something from being removed...
This typical landscape could very well be Norway, and the typical features are well captured and presented in a fine composition!
Greetings,

Well I am still a bit befuddled with this image. I'm "going out on a limb" here. Maybe it's an American limb : ) looking for American contrast and color??????? This version is lighter but for me, still on the dull side. I do realize that it is a dull, dark day. I think landscape photography is really difficult on dull, dark days. There needs to be something with strong lines, contrast, and sharp focus... at least in the foreground....somewhere. The leaves are kind of nice but I don't think they are enough to create a strong focal point. The log sort of disappears, and it, and everything behind it...to the furthest trees are the same darkish value. There is no sense of depth, at least on my screen. It "feels" completely flat to me. I think in this kind of light, closer shots are often more effective. Perhaps an option would be to get closer to the log and mosses and leaves so that they would be sharper and stronger. Then the grasses and trees behind them could act as a sort of backdrop to them. I know you appreciate honest opinions and here is mine.
I face this same problem all the time during the dullish, gray days of an Oregon winter. If I can't get an image that has some "punch" to it in some way, I just give up. I really need to train my eye to see the possibilities in that kind of light. I haven't taken a picture in weeks....so we are leaving on the 14th and heading south.

Ahhh...what a beautiful place!...and i know that some people wouldn't quite understand my enthusiasm about such a view, but now i know that this one is fantasticly similar to mine :)
If it's ok with you, i'll post in a WS with a picture i took there so you'll also see :)
Anyway, you are right, this version is indeed better, the light is more natural and the colors are much better.
The POV here is lovely and the positioning of the trees give the nice impression that they form a circle around you :)
Also the old log in the FG is a very nice touch, too.
Bravo, my friend, and TFS

Hi Niek,
