[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
That day I was busy monitoring a transect on flora and fauna on the Brunssummerheide. I was trying to capture a sand lizard when al of a sudden this dragonfly passed by. It was still early in the season for the larger dragonflies and my ready-to-use knowledge had sunk deep. So I took some pictures and later at home I found out it was Orthetrum coerulescens. In this particular region not very abundant, but a regular visitor. This is the female.

When taking pictures I prefer to show some of the surroundings where I found a species. Therefor I didn't crop or zoom to the whole animal but decided to leave some space around it.

The Keeled Skimmer, Orthetrum coerulescens, is a European dragonfly.

This species resembles the Black-tailed Skimmer but is slimmer and the male has no black tip. Females and immature males lack the black abdominal pattern. The pterostigma is orange and the thorax usually bears pale stripes.

Hi Jacob

A very nice shot of this charming skimmer.
I really like the fact that you chose to show more of the environment - it integrates the dragonfly very nicly in her habitat.
The shapness is impeccable here and the large DOF great (even though it makes the photo full of details which some might call distracting, i like for instance very muc the conifer cone on the left - it fives an excellent idea of the size of the skimmer).
I also like the low POV used here wcich alloed you to capture that gorgeous BG.
Just one question, for my curiosity: what was the distance between your lens and the skimmer here?

Anyway, great work! Bravo and TFS, my friend!
