The earliest flower in spring here in northern Norway is called Rødsildre in Norwegian. This one was growing close to the sea at Sommarøy, 60 km west of Tromsø city.

From Wikipedia.

"Saxifraga oppositifolia, the purple saxifrage, is a species of plant that is very common all over the high Arctic and also some high mountainous areas further south, including northern Britain, the Alps and the Rocky Mountains. It is even known to grow in north Greenland, at 83°15'N, the most northerly plant locality in the world.

It is a low-growing, densely or loosely matted plant growing to 3–5 cm high, with somewhat woody branches of creeping or trailing habit close to the surface. The leaves are small, rounded, scale-like, opposite in 4 rows, with ciliated margins. The flowers are solitary on short stalks, petals purple or lilac, much longer than the calyx lobes. It is one of the very first spring flowers, continuing to flower during the whole summer in localities where the snow melts later.

It grows in all kinds of cold temperate to arctic habitats, from sea level up to 1000 m, in many places colouring the landscape. It is a popular plant in alpine gardens, though difficult to grow in warm climates."

Hello Jon

A beautiful capture of these lovely flowers.
I really like the way the flowers are cradled in the rocks.
Good use of lighting ,the colours are well saturated and vivid.
The POV and composition are well done.
Nicely done

Hi Jon
This variety of Saxifraga is so dainty. I love how you captured it growing up between the rocks. It's blossoms are a rich and vivid colour of pink. Nicely composed and good note.

Hi Jon,
Just marking this wonderful post from you and will come back later with a proper critique. Sorry, on the sick list.
Regards.
Sumon

the rocks are so important for me here as i like to see a flower in its habitat..
it gives fine balance to the textures and emphasises the flowers tones better
good spray of the flowers from left to right giving good coverage of the frame
cheers

Bonjour Jon,
