[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
When we got closer to Aurland and to the end of the Snovegen we did a final stop on the highest point of the road. From here we had a great view of the plateau and to mountains in the distance. I decided to do a 7 photo panorama to get a better feeling of the wideness of the area.

If you look to the left of this photo you can see a little part of the road. This will give a slightly better scale to the photo. As you can see, the cloud cover was pretty heavy, but it also shows that better weather was kreeping in. A few days later temperatures went up to 30 degrees C.

I think it might be useful to post some technical data on this result. I took it handheld, on manual focus, at 20mm vertical and on the manual setting. I first made a dry run in Aperture priority to get an average reading of the light and dialed in the slowest shutter speed for the manual setting. Dialing in this speed assured me of no over exposure. I perfer to under exposure rather then over expose.

The stitch was done in Panorama Maker 4 Pro. Which is so much better then version 3 and allows for even more control. Some small adjustments on levels was done in Photoshop.

Unfortunately the size does not allow for an LP version

Hallo niek,

Zo aan je foto's te zien heb je een mooie vakantie gehad en heel wat moois gezien.
Dit is ook weer een mooi gekleurde panorama foto.
Zelfs in Juli nog sneeuw, lekker koud klimaat.

great pov with good clarity, natural colour and nice details over the land! I loved the little blue sky on the right corner that makes a good colour contrast towards this composition!

Hi Niek

Great shot - I like the subtle shades in the claciated landscape - it looks as if you were standing just back from a glacial 'trough end'? I also like the alto cloud - especially where it is breaking into alto-cumuls - it adds great movement.

Hello Niek,

This landscape with clouds gives a wide panaorama with snow smeared mounts, near and far.
POV, DOF and composition are very good.

Seven photos!... what size was that file before you converted it for TN??? I think taking them vertically is a good idea. I like what the wide angle did to the swirls and patterns of the clouds. It is always exciting to get to such a high vantage point where one can get a 360º vista. It's interesting to still see snow in late July.

The patch of brilliant blue sky in the upper right above the highest landforms in the image makes this a wonderful photo to me, Niek. The long/narrow/landscape crop also adds to the impact the photo has on those who view it. TFS.

Hallo Niek,

Volgens mij moet je aardig hoog hebben gezeten met al die sneeuw. Als ik het vergelijk met mijn trips in Zwitserland in het voorjaar/zomer dan schat ik jouw hoogte in ieder geval boven de 2000 meter. Mede gelet op de schaarse begroeing. Mooi landschap heb je ons voorgeschoteld. Het bijzondere aan deze foto vind ik ook de wolkenformatie boven de voorste bergtop. Lijkt wel of die erom heen krult. Zal wel aan de panoramopname liggen, maar toch.

A very beautiful pano from up there!
Indeed the ultra wide view describes the place better and it's a shame you could get the ratio for the LP...i'm sure that would have been nice :)

Since you've chose to talk technical stuff in your note, I see you've used Panorama Maker 4 Pro. I used version 3 on some of my panos and i would realy like to know what the 4 can do extra :)

About the photo here, you went for quite a bold composition, providing extra room in the frame for the sky and clouds. You managed to control the the exposure very well in all the individual shots and the stitching place is therefore invisible.

Wow, Niek... A fantastic panorama.
It takes a lot of expertise on the camera and on the stitching program to come up with such a seamless end product. Great work!
An impressive landscape. The heavily clouded sky gives the mountains more dimension, and the little snip of the road gives us a reference point as to scale.

I like this one very much. The lure of the overlooked is enhanced through that panorama aspect ratio.
You reproduced the cloudy sky very well. It is almost as you applied HDR.
