Spring was cancelled last night.

Unfortunately we were blessed with 50 cm of the cold white stuff, and I’m pretty sure no one asked for this.

Fresh snow looks good in sunlight, however… and is quite a challenge photography wise. Normally exposure has to be manipulated to get the best result. Seems like I will have plenty of time practicing this Easter.

I wasn’t happy for the snow. Judged by the image the tree has seen its last season too… Pity. I have liked to photograph that tree.

A fresh weather report, situation as seen while making my morning coffee today...

------

QUIZ

As kids we used to try to determine tracks we found in the snow!

For fun I made a small quiz for you – what creature made the tracks we can see in the workshop image?

Those who participate will get the correct answer in a day or two!

------

I throw in a workshop image to show what the tree looks like today, four months later!

Hi Pablo.
Very impressive picture by captured nature phenomenon and by quality of its reproduction.
We, Odessa citizens, are lucky. This winter was the most pleasure. Only 2-3 days were cold (about -10 C) and snowy (in the end of February). Other days were warm (from 0 till +10 C and more). A lot of sunny days, no rains. This spring is a bit warmer and smooth weather.

At your shot I especially like the play of sunlight, impressive shadows and perfect reproduction heavy snow caps. Great picture. My compliments and TFS.
Alexei.

Hi Pablo

Wow to think you are just across the water from us and we have glorious sunshine. I think you handled the exposure wonderfully and the composition looks great. It looks beautiful even if it wasn't what you wanted

Hi Pablo,
You handle the white color of fresh snow and sun light well. Lovely pov and composition. Sorry that I have no idea about owner's of the track in workshop.

Hi Pablo,
well just think about the good part...... the Easter eggs will not melt;-). This kept me going the whole week, winter also has returened to Canada.. I like this composition, nice play with light and shadow. Nice crispness in colors and details. The textures of the snow came out very well.
Happy Christmas... oops sorry Easter.

Great composition! I like artistic shots like this.
We also got a snow yesterday in CENTRAL TEXAS! That's unheard of around here! We had wildflowers and fruit trees blooming and now they're all dead. :(
I'm also working on your snow tracks...I want to enter a guess if for no other reason than to find out what they are.

Cancelled...oh no...I know exactly how you feel Pablo. The sun has hardly shown her face here. We have snow on the ground and expect more tomorrow, but not 50cm.

You've captured an artistic view of the snow sitting on the tree. I like the soft lighting and colours the snow and sun create. Nicely done.

Nice capture and beautiful colors.
Very well presented.

Olá Pablo

Lindíssimo trabalho, uma ótima composição, luz e cores excelentes.
Parabéns!!!

Abraços,
Vera.

Pablo,
In your W/S are you trying to tell us that a large Easter
Bunny past you by without laying the egg?
You "manipulated" the exposure wonderfully.
I loved the photo but not the amount of snow that plagued you.
We, in Calgary, have enjoyed sunshine after sunshine.!!!
Regards from your friend, Mario.

Hi Pablo,
we here in Alberta have had our fair share of the white stuff as well. You have done a good job in handling your exposure. As for your workshop photo my guess is some sort of water foul left behind the tracks, maybe a goose or duck. Tfs. Bob

bonjour pablo
encore de la neige au moi d'avril, brrrrr, pas de chance!
bonne expo et belle et bonne netteté.
pour le quizz,je n'ai pas d'idée.

hello Pablo

what I like form your picture is the shapes of the snow over the branches and the lovely white colour you have got

the fence is a point of interest in the picture

Hi Pablo,
wooooow - unbeleavable, so much snow in one night and at this time - ok, last year we also had snow until April, but that year there wasn't much and so plenty of small flowers are outside now. But snow together with this nice sunshine is also pretty.

Your Quiz is difficult - perhaps it was an Otter feeling like a child while playing in the snow? If it were sand I would say a snake - but I have never seen snow-snakes!
So my idea is the Otter.
I'm curious to hear the right answer ...
Bye and greetings
Sabine - wishnugaruda

Beautiful clear winter image, very nice soft tones.

Hello Pablo,
This is the never ending winter here too :) We had 2 snow falls during Easter... Today, is the first sunny and warmer day. This is a nice picture with good exposure, POV and composition. Snow could be so heavy sometimes... I like this lightning a lot. Well done! Thanks,
Claudine
PS, I'm not good at your quiz as I have no idea :)

What a shot. Isn't it odd at the moment. For me 2 weeks ago I was in a blizzard in total white out conditions with ice axe and crampons on and many feet (+60cm) of snow and ice and yesterday was +22C and my garden is full of ground nesting bumblebees looking for a hole to live in for the summer. I have bluebells in flower and in a week or two my first round of early purple orchids will be in flower!

I guess we pay more attention to the weather as we grow older. Not that many years ago I would have thought nothing of snow at Easter... or and considered getting sunburnt at easter unusual...

Maybe you can now photo to rebirth of the tree instead?

TFS
Emma

Hello Pablo,
Had heard of white Christmas, but white Easter?? Unthinkable! What is happening to weather?
Very charming snow view, but for the poor tree.
The blue tint to the shaded area behind the lighted one creates an excellent contrast.
Now I will look at your quiz :-).
Bye.

Hello pablo !
Snow again ! This is really stunning ! Exposure looks great on your picture, as well as the composition, the the POV and the details on the fallen tree. Excellent snow picture !
As for the WS, I would have said two rabbits running side by side, but I'm sure it's wrong so I hope you tell us what it is very soon ! :-)
Valerie.

Hi Pablo,
A nice icy shot here. The image is lovely and sharp which let's us who don't have snow almost feel the texture. Or Summer is hanging on too. It is very hot here today and has been for the last week. The nights are cool and therefore we are still getting lovely Autumn colours. I am not looking forward to Winter. Excellent image.
Cheers,
Debbie

Hello Pablo!
Looks like we are all being hit with spring snow this year! Another storm is heading my way even while I type this! Nice shot of an unhappy tree! Good job with the lighting . TFS

Hi Pablo,

What a different with Belgium on Easter, here 20 degree Celsius, this is extraordinarily for this period of the year.
Beautiful winter picture you show us here I think one of the last images from the winter 2006/2007, very well done.

Best regards,
John.

Salut Pablo

Hi Pablo,
Probably not wanted, but a beautiful spring snow. You did well with the exposure here. Spot on colors with nice detail. I think we are suppose to get some snow tomorrow.
CRAZY!

Hi Pablo.
Beautiful shot.I like white color and details on snow in light parts as well as in shadow.Great exposure and very good focus.
To quiz:It is a pity as though am couldn't take part in,brands after wings in snow be right see,but magpie would I no said, although :-)
Great weekend,with greeting Milos.

Hi Pablo. Good perspective of this heavy snow over the branches. Excellent clarity and colours. It is always a pleasure to see your trademark blue sky in the background. Hope spring returns soon!
TFS. Murray.

Hi Pablo,
That must have been a huge surprise to have that much snow again and so sudden. The composition with the slight diagonal line of the fence and the hanging braches of the tree combined with the wonderful lighting is great. The photo is a real intimate feeling.

Hello Pablo!
I think it has been the last spring snow for this year. Though I remember a snow in Bulgaria as late as in May.

Good melting frosty textures in proper colours and a warming quizz... Without the proportion it's difficult to find out...
Greetings from all in green Sofia!

Hello Pablo,
50 cm of snow now sounds really cruel!! I hope it has melted away by now and that spring returns to ýou in full force. Anyway, you've captured this last snowfall really well - colours and sharpness are impressive in this beautiful composition.

Hi Pablo
I love the way the snow dresses everything even the thinnest twigs. The game of lights and shadows is gorgeous as well as the redish tone reflected.
I'm rather sad for this year there has not been a single day of snow in Madrid, even when it snowed in almost all Spain. Is this a proof of the global warming? :(
A pity.
My compliments and thank you very much for sharing.
Greetings
Maite

Ah!! As for the tracks..., I've got no idea! Maybe some squirrel? It's funny
Tell me, please :)

Hello Pablo,
great play of colors: white of the snow, brown of the tree, light and darkness from the morning sun...Have a breakfast with such a view! I'm envious...

Hi Pablo, I'm not crazy about living in snow, but I love photographing it while I'm in it. I'm sorry I missed your quiz when the timing was right. I recognized the wing brush strokes, but would have been a little hard pressed to guess the kind. I see those near our woods in Canada - mostly from owls and others but they don't leave a lot of other tracks. Anyhow, your snow shot is a good one. You've managed the light well (which can be very difficult with all that white), and you have the great long shadows that are so typical of an early morning or late afternoon shot. The texture of the new fallen snow is also well captured.

Thanks, John

Hi Pablo,

A good POV of the snow covered tree, the photo has a good composition, DOF and nice colors. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Pablo,
Looked for snowy images in Your gallery, knowing You have some. Here in Hungary, now we don't have snow at all. 50 centimeters on one night... How lucky You are (from my own POV)!
Beatiful image, excellent use of available light, perfect exposure and composition. I wish to see something like this here soon (or I must say ever...).
Quiz: it was done by human. You know, no worse animal than human... (I'm not correct, because I've already read Your answers).
Have a beautiful new year with such excellent photographies as this one. Friendly regards from Your snowfan friend, László
