Helix pomatia ?
Helix pomatia is Europe's biggest landsnail,with a shell diameter of over 45 mm.
It's English names are: Roman snail, Edible snail and Vineyard snail, the first two being closely connected.The Romans used these snails (and Helix aspersa) for food, keeping them in enclosed snail gardens. That way they probably came established in England and other countries.
