With this little flower I would like to start a series of photos which are to familiarize you with one of the most beautiful parts of Poland - namely Bieszczady Mountains. There is really a lot to be said about this part of Poland and I'll be trying, with each post, to include most important and interesting pieces of information concerning this region.
Let me begin with a bit of geography. Bieszczady are situated in the East Carpathian Mountains. They are divided into East Bieszczady (in Ukraine) and West Bieszczady (Poland).
West Bieszczady stretch for about 50 km from the Uzocka Pass (in the east) to Lupkowska Pass (west, it also marks the beginning of the West Carpathian mountains).
The area of West Bieszczady can be characterized both by wild nature and extremely tumultuous history.
I think that will be all for now. More to come.

Let me know tell you something about the flower:
Scientific Name: Dianthus carthusianorum subsp. saxigenus
Polish Name: Gozdzik kartuzek skalny
English Name: ????????
This particular subspecies is extremely rare and actually it is one the rarest vescular plants in Poland. In Bieszczady it has been spotted only in three places (all on rocks with southern exposure) and Bieszczady are the only known place in Poland where they grow. I am not sure whether it is East Carpathian endemic species but it is decribed as typical for East Carpathian. I was lucky to come across it in June (I even took some pictures but they're of very poor quality) and on last Sunday( Bukowe Berdo is the name of the mountain - i'll write about it in one of my next post).
It's October now and as you can see on the photo the flower is really weary. Winter is coming soon...

PS. Forgive my English and I'll be back...
