The Western honey bee or European honey bee (Apis mellifera) is a species of honey bee. Apis mellifera is Latin, from apis "bee", and mel "honey" + ferre "to carry" - hence the scientific name means "honey-carrying bee". This is technically wrong, since honey bees carry nectar and produce honey. However, the name was coined in 1758 by Carolus Linnaeus who in a subsequent publication tried to correct it to Apis mellifica ("honey-making bee"); according to the rules of synonymy in zoological nomenclature, the older name has precedence. Hi Tadeusz,
Wonderful shot of this swarm. Very sharp and neat image with good use of flash lighting and the resultant effect is stunning. I like the sheen on those countless wings and the glow on those eyes. Excellent POV and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Kiedyś to moja pasja, wiem całkiem sporo na ich temat i na temat ich hodowli, a przecież zapomniałem już jak pachnie gniazdo pszczele i ciemna woszczyna z tego gniazda. coś mi podpowiada Tadek, że jesteś zapalonym pszczelarzem, a jeśli tak to moje gratulacje. Pszczółki ładne, sporo młodzieży tutaj widzę chociaż w komórkach nie ma dostatku - pewnie niedawno im podebrano co nieco, a przecież lato bedzie krótkie więc już szykujcie gniazda do intensywnego karmienia. Odważna ale i dobra jakościowo fotografia - że też one tak spokojnie zniosły blysk lampy (zazwyczaj tego nie lubią).
