[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Regional variation is great. For example, this species is protected in the Netherlands. It's rare and only occurs in shaded streams. In Biebrza National Park the Calopteryx virgo was much more abundant than the C. splendens and I found this damselfly practically everywhere. From the borders of biebrza to dense alder forrest. This one was captured in Cerwone bagno, a alder forrest and bog area, within the national park.

The picture was taken around 9:00 in the morning, but the sunlight was already very bright. the contrast in the image is high. I tried to reduce it, but reducing more did not lead to satisfying results.

Hi Jacob

I like the way that the blue/green/back of this damselfly(?) contrasts with the acid green leaves. Lovely sharpness, concentrating on the magnificent wing.

Hi Jacob

Regional variation is actually very understandable.
It's the same situation here as well; this place i just came from was swarming with C. virgo. They are locally very common here, too. It's pretty much the same situation with some herpeto species, too.

Anyway, back the the photo.
It's a splendid macro shot with loads of sharp details and vivid colors.
I actually like this strong contrast between the damsel and its environment. The DOF here is also impeccable and adds to the isolation of the subject while the textures and the metallic reflection are just a bliss.

This is one beautiful insect. So well captured with it's iridescence.Details are so sharp, it is like seeing it live.
