[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Small Tortoiseshell (Nymphalis urticae) is a well-known colourful butterfly, found in temperate Europe. The adult is striking, with its dark body and red and yellow wings, which have a row of blue dots around the rear edge. However, the underwings are dull, which helps to conceal stationary or hibernating individuals. When threatened, resting individuals rapidly open their wings, presenting the dramatic display of colors. This can frighten away young or inexperienced birds (Stevens 2005).

The butterfly is abundant in most areas of the United Kingdom and Ireland. However, its availability often varies yearly. Its commonness may often depend on the status of the common wasp in that particular season, as the wasp is known to feed on the Tortoiseshell's pupae.

Piekna fotka. Ladne mocne kolory. Swietne rozmyte tlo. Obrazek jest ostry ale sa takie miejsca na skrzydlach ktore moznaby troche podostrzyc w PS. Fotka jest super ale masz blad w notce

What a lovely shot, Pawel.
Very nicely chosen POV.
Cheers!
Goldy

Hi Pawel,
very nice shot of Araschnia (I agree with Krzysztof on the ID). I particularely like the composition with the green background and the leaf disappearing into it.

Hi Pawel.
I think it not so easy to take butterfly with your excellent lens. However, you have taken a great shot. I like wonderful scene, perfect details of the leaf and butterfly, amazing colours and bokeh. Bravo.
Alexei.

Hello Pawel,
Yes, it is the MAP Butterfly that you've captured very nicely here! Great focus, excellent sharpness and lovely natural colours. A fine background too and well composed. (Ivan posted the same sp. the other day!)
Many thanks and regards, Ulla

Hi Pawel,

This is a nice clean shot of the butterfly. Very good composition with the sharp image of the butterfly on the blurry background. Good use of the lighting conditions rendering natural color tones. Not the least well chosen POV and good use of the 70-200 lenses.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Hi Pawel, elegant butterfly with splendid colors, great details and excellent sharpness, very well done, have a good Sunday, ciao Silvio

Witaj.

Pięknie wykadrowałeś tego motyla. Sama ostatnio "ganiam" motylki i wiem jak trudno podejść do nich aby dobrze strzelić fotkę. Ładne, naturalne kolorki i dobra ostrość. Wszystko tak jak lubię... gratuluję.
Pozdrawiam i życzę dalszych dobrych "łowów"
Alina
