[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
It is probably this Dioxys tridentata.

The superfamily Apoidea is a major group within the Hymenoptera, which includes two traditionally-recognized lineages, the "sphecoid" wasps, and the bees, who appear to be their descendants.

Bees appear in recent classifications to be a specialized lineage of crabronid wasps that switched to the use of pollen and nectar as larval food, rather than insect prey; this presumably makes Crabronidae a paraphyletic group. Accordingly, bees and sphecoids are now all grouped together in a single superfamily, and the older available name is "Apoidea" rather than "Sphecoidea" (which, like Spheciformes, has been used in the past, but also defined a paraphyletic group and has been abandoned).

As the bees themselves (not including their wasp ancestors) are still considered a monophyletic group, it is still convenient to use a grouping between superfamily and family to unify all bees. A few recent classifications have addressed this problem by lumping all bee families together into a single large family Apidae[citation needed], though this has not met with widespread acceptance. The alternative classification in more common use is to unite all bees under the name Anthophila (Engel, 2005), which is equivalent to the obsolete name Apiformes

Hi Marx. This is an excellent macro shot of the insect. Your very sharp focusing has given fine detail. Showing every little hair on its body. even the pink coloured polen on its legs. Your use of the light has given rich natural looking colours. well taken TFS,
nick..

Hi Marx,
great and rare bee shot. I have never seen this bee before. All is very sharp . Great and informative note too. I like this kind of contributiuion to TN very much, thanks for that, Marx.

Interesting: the bee seems to be attached to three pistils by the mandible. This is an interesting behavior. It could be related to a fungus parasite which, growing into the brain, changes the behavior of the bee. This bee position if it is permanent allows the future fungus spores growing at the outside of the bee to distribute well: manipulation by parasites. But of course I don't know if this is true for your bee.

Best regards
Dietrich

Hello Marx,
I missed this special shot...strange how the bee is floating in the air over the flower. Beautiful color-combination and perfect sharpness.I like also the composition with just a quarter of the flowersincluded in the picture.
Thanks and kind regards
Anne
