Another one from the archives. This time a photo of Deilephila elpenor taken on Ponidzie in southern Poland

Deilephila elpenor
Family: Sphingidae

The imago tends to feed in the evening, and often takes nectar from garden plants like honeysuckles and petunias, so it is quite often seen in urban settings. The larva is about 75mm long, green and brown in colour. Like most hawk moth caterpillars, they have a backward curving spine or "horn" on the final abdominal segment.

Caterpillars host plants: Epilobium, Galium
Wing span: 58-65mm
Distribution: Palearctic

Hello Krzysztof,
As it's some time since I've seen a D. elpenor, it's great to see this excellent capture of it. The lighting and sharpness aare superb and help to show it well against the busy Bg from this dorsal POV.
Thanks and have a good weekend,
Ivan

Hi Krzysztof

Magnificent capture, full of bright colors and a well-worked. Excellent the way the photo shows the detail of the texture of the insect. Very good job, certainly not aware of this very particular kind of moth.

Regards & TFS!

Hi Krzysztof,
A great macro capture of a colourful and big moth from fine dorsal POV with excellent details and wonderful composition.
TFS and have a nice week!
Cheers,

Bayram

Pięknie ubarwiony motyl, jakoś mi się kojarzyło że te zawisakowate raczej uprawiają mimikrę a ten jakby nie.
