Hello!

Photograph taken last weekend in garden near my grandmother's house in Mragowo, Poland.
I remember these beetles since I was I child, always on garden flowers in the same place. I liked to catch them because they make strange noise when held in closed hand- but I never hurt any!:)

Some species information:

Classification:

Kingdom- Animalia (Animals)
Phylum- Arthropoda (Arthropods)
Class- Insecta (Insects)
Order- Coleoptera (Beetles)
Suborder- Polyphaga (Water, Rove, Scarab, Longhorn, Leaf and Snout Beetles)
Superfamily- Chrysomeloidea (Long-horned and Leaf Beetles)
Family- Chrysomelidae (Leaf Beetles)
Subfamily- Criocerinae
Genus- Lilioceris
Species- lilii (Lily Leaf Beetle)

The red or scarlet lily beetle (Lilioceris lilii) is a leaf beetle that eats the stems, leaves, buds and flowers of lilies, fritillaries and other plants in the Liliaceae family. It only lays its eggs on Liliuim and Fritillaria species [1]. It is native to parts of Eurasia. It is known to have been introduced separately to Britain and Canada in the 1940s, possibly on imported lily bulbs. It is now a pest in most temperate climates where lilies are cultivated.

The larvae have orange-brown bodies and black heads. They carry their excrement on their backs in order to deter predators. Adults are bright scarlet in colour and 6–9 mm long.

When the adult beetles are threatened they emit a high pitched buzzing from their abdomen

Hi Adrian,

What an interesting looking Beetle with the long legs. Excellent details and textures of the body, face, and antennae. Good colors - that red is really nice. His pose makes him look like a warrior.

Out of smiles - be back.

Hello Adrian,
gradation of brightness and light is peculiar here. In combination with the exact focus,
sufficient depth of field and pretty good sharpness, you achieve detail-richness even
in the dark parts of the beetle's surface and underside.
Point of view and general composition are well selected and attractive.
Best wishes, Peter

Witaj,
Wczoraj walczylem z tymi insektami na moich bialych liliach. Chociaz sympatycznie wygladaja ale lilie tego nie podzielaja. Bardzo dobre makro, super POV.
Pozdrawiam, Pawel.

Hi Adrian, splendid bug with amazing details, wonderful colors and excellent sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Adrian,
Very nice shot with great sharpness and unusual POV. It is a beautiful insect but very voracious. Maybe your Grandmothed did not love them after the destroyed her lilies. It's happened to me last year in my little garden...
Best regards,
Catherine

Oh, what a great photo of this insect! Very effective minimalistic scene, with great color contrast and saturation. Also thanx for the interesting note.
Best regards, László
