Hi all,
today another shot of dance fly, this time on blue flower, shot taken some time ago during my forest walk near Olsztyn, Poland.
Thanks to trek members as Argus, cicindela and others now I know this is species from Empididae family. Thanks guys once more for info.

Original picture taken in RAF format, resized, framed and sharpen for TN, also I had to clear big noise in backgroundusing NeatImage.

Below some information about Empididae family found in Wikipedia:

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Diptera
Superfamily: Empidoidea
Family: Empididae

Empididae is a family of flies with over 3000 described species. Three subfamilies are now generally regarded as separate families: Atelestidae, Brachystomatidae, and Hybotidae (the Microphoridae were a former subfamily of Empididae, briefly classified as a family, and now contained within the Dolichopodidae). Empidids are mainly predatory flies and exhibit a wide range of forms but are generally small to medium sized, non-metallic and rather bristly. Common names for members of this family include dance flies (referring to the habit of some species to form large dancing swarms), dagger flies (referring to the sharp piercing mouthparts of some species) and balloon flies. Distribution is worldwide but the majority are found in northern temperate areas.

Some empidids such as the European species Hilara maura have an elaborate courtship ritual in which the male wraps a prey item in silk and presents it to the female to stimulate copulation.

Empidid larvae are also largely predatory (although some are scavengers) and occupy a wide range of habitats, both aquatic and terrestrial.

Empidids are well represented in amber deposits and the family certainly seems to have been well established by the Cretaceous period at the latest.

Thanks for watching and have a nice day!
Cheers!

Great image, Adrian.
This insect looks formidable, sitting atop that blue flower.
I admire your bold perspective.
Pretty sharp and well framed picture.
Wishing you all the best,
Ram

Hello Adrian,

Very good composition. Great POV. Very good sharpness. Very good colours. The POV you chose to take the picture is not the easiest and you did it well.
Cheers,
Mariki
