Hi friends,
late post today (for European time ;), showing beetle from Curculionidae family, unfortunatelly I wasn't able to name the species. Picture was taken few days ago in my garden in Mragowo, Poland. I called the picture 'explorer' because I'm sure that garden flowers are not a natural habitat for this kind of beetles. It was quite windy day so he probably was taking a rest before next fly.
Picture was cropped, some contrast and colour balance added. framing, resizing and final sharpening for TN.
Short info found on Wikipedia:
Curculionidae is the family of the "true" weevils (or snout beetles). With over 60,000 species described worldwide, it is the largest of the beetle families.
They are recognized by their distinctive long snout and geniculate antennae with small clubs; beyond that curculionids have considerable diversity of form and size, with adult lengths ranging from 1 mm to 40 mm.
Weevils are almost entirely plant feeders, and most species are associated with a narrow range of hosts, in many cases only living on a single species.
With so many species to classify and over 400 genera, the taxonomy of this family is quite complicated, and authors disagree on the number and placement of various subfamilies, tribes, and subtribes.
Thanks a lot for watching...
Any criticques and comments always welcome.
Have a quiet night and good next day to all!
cheers! |

Hi Adrian,
Excellent composition, very good details and vivid colours,
TFS & best regards,
Tomasz
An immaculate and precise close-up image of a beetle's face, Adrian.
The subtle details, especially on the eys and the thorax, are perfect.
The dark coloured insect stands out against the colours of the flower it is sitting on.
Well done and thanks for sharing.
Hello Adrian. Nice head shot at this beetle. I like the sharp detail of the image in very good framing. The bright red flower is contrasting well with the black beetle. Well done. Jusni
Hi Adrian,
A wonderful macro shot of a weevil focused on head an thorax parts with a colourful BG. On id, I think it is a Liparus species (germanus with a high possibility)since it is plumb and the elytra clearly rounded at front without 'shoulders'. Plase check this link my friend!
Thanks for sharing this.
Cheers,
Bayram
