Hello!

During my last walk near Plytkie lake, east from Mragowo, Poland I was surprised finding fresh signs of beavers presence.
Picture shows just a small fragment of big working side, all cuttings were made not longer than few weeks maybe days ago.
I know that the beavers lived somewhere in the area but still couldn't find the location.. I'm happy to see they are still on place because it's not far from town and nerby recreation areas. Many people are against beavers presence because they are damaging many trees every year and sometimes flooding large areas of ground when constructing dams.
Many interesting information about beavers behaviour You can find on the side: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaver

I've chosen this shot to show determination in cutting trees- especially the tree on the right looks almost like a sculpture, amazing piece of art;)

Thanks a lot for viewing, any comments always welcome!
Cheers!

I've seen a lot of beaver chewed trees but never a double one like that. I suspect that the higher gnawings were done in winter with the beaver standing on deep snow. I am impresses with the sheer size of these trees. It's a good thing that beavers' teeth keep growing. They would have worn out a set on these trees! Thanks for posting such an interesting photo.

Hola Adrian, me ha sorprendido mucho la escena y además nunca había visto con tanta claridad el trabajo de los castores y su voracidad con la madera.
Buen documento y captado además con mucha limpieza.

Fascinating photo, i'm suprised that tree is still standing! TrekNature needs more photos like this, it really shows the effects of animals on the environment. A very well chosen POV to show this off this scene to it's best, well done.

Hi adrian.

Great photo! i can only imagine how peeved the beaver was who spent all that time chewing through that tree in the middle section only for it to get trapped between those other two trees. I believe there is talk of re introducing beavers back to england. I for one would welcome it.

I saw some wood constructions from beavers in Netherland. I was much puzzled by the trouble in use for sometimes so short piece of wood (like the middle little one on the sulpture on your pic). Is their brain to small to realise that finishing a cut is easier than making a fresh new one next to it? I don't think so. Yet I can't understand why they do it that way.
In opposite to the american beaver, the european beaver is not doing so well and need good protection to maintain its population.

Hi Adrian,
I find this shot quite fascinating.
I've seen beavers gnawing trees in cartoons, but I've never seen the real thing before.
Looks like one had trouble deciding where to gnaw at the closest tree.
Very good exposure and DOF giving a clear all oner image.
Good work.
TFS this interesting post.
Cheers
Steve

Hi Adrian

An amazing shot - really interesting. Well framed and captured. There is a scheme to re-introduce beavers to the UK - but there is a lot of opposition.

Witaj Adrian,

Hello Adrian,

Amazing picture of these trees cut by the beavers. Excellent POV, DOF and sharpness. I hope there are still beavers'natural predators because it is sure that they can do a lot of damages in case of overpopulation.
Cheers,
Mariki
